It is NFL Draft season and the mock drafts from the NFL experts and pundits are being published nearly every day and making their picks for the Bucs. Every Monday until the 2019 NFL Draft in April, PewterReport.com will scour the Internet to find the list of players that are projected to Tampa Bay and put out the list with the links.

NEW MOCKS THIS WEEK

PewterReport.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: LSU ILB Devin White
Bucs’ Second Round Pick (From Jacksonville): Boston College DE Zach Allen
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Boston College G Chris Lindstrom
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: Western Illinois DT Khalen Saunders
Bucs Fourth Round Pick: Buffalo QB Tyree Jackson
Bucs’ Fifth Round Pick: Memphis RB/KR Tony Pollard
Bucs’ Seventh Round Pick: SMU CB Jordan Wyatt
“White, who just turned 21 in January, was the leader of the Tigers defense over the last two seasons in which he was a first-team All-SEC linebacker. After being a second-team All-American in 2017 for recording 133 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three pass breakups and one interception, White was the 2018 Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top linebacker.”Scott Reynolds

Bucs’ First Round Pick: Houston DT Ed Oliver
“Oliver would pair nicely with last year’s top pick Vita Vea and provide Tampa Bay with a dynamic interior penetrator. The Bucs made strides on defense last year, but more work needs to be done for Tampa Bay to field a competitive defense.”Joe Marino

WalterFootball.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Florida OT Jawaan Taylor
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Florida S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: Alabama CB Saivion Smith
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick: Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham
“If the Buccaneers did the smart thing and selected Derwin James after trading down last year, they could take Ed Oliver here as an upgrade over Vita Vea. Instead, they have to take a lesser player, although I’m sure Tampa fans won’t object to finding a sorely needed upgrade at left tackle.”WalterFootball.com

ProFootballFocus.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia CB DeAndre Baker
“Baker is a fit for any defensive scheme and as he can play both man and zone coverage with excellent ball skills. He allowed a passer rating of only 40.2 into his coverage last season.”Steve Palazollo

SBNation.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Michigan DE Rashan Gary
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Temple CB Rock Ya-Sin
“The Buccaneers are in a tough spot this offseason. They’re likely going to cut veteran star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. They could also move on from end Vinny Curry. If those moves happen, Tampa Bay could turn to the draft to replenish the defensive line. Gary is a big end who sets the edge well, and he can move inside in certain situations.”Dan Kadar

  1. Again I say, if we take a MLB then who is going to cover Julio Jones? Who’s going to pass rush if we let GMC walk? And/or, who’s going to pass protect for Winston?

We have three huge holes: OL, DL (if GMC is cut), CB.

    • Let me play devil’s advocate for a bit, assuming Devin White is an elite prospect mold of Luke Kuechly or Ray Lewis minus the murder:

Prefacing this by saying Williams, Bosa, Allen will most likely be gone by the time the Bucs pick at fifth. The Bucs are probably shifting to a 3-4 front and that means a classic three tech will be playing DE and Vea will be the nose. It could be McCoy, but it maybe could be Nassib and we just need a 5 tech on the other side.

On the other hand, the only starter quality linebacker on the Bucs is David, and for all the crap people said about Gerald not being a winner, David is right up there with him the whole time – so although he is a pro-ball caliber player there are question marks.

What about Kwon? Kwon is not under contract and is coming off an ACL surgery and when he does play, he is super inconsistent and tends to make up his slow read with his elite athleticism.

Beckwith is still recovering from his accident and who knows what kind of player he will be after coming back.

Cichey is also recovering from his ACL injury and now he has torn them on both knees.

So, linebacker is definitely a need.

But really though, the Bucs just need to have good players all over on the defense. The talent just are not there period and that has been on Licht not drafting them and on the coaches not developing them.

    • Free agency and lots of cuts will be happening before the draft. And the draft is more than 1 round. As far as covering Julio I will say we wont have to cover him nearly as long anymore. Because there will be alot more positions pass rushing next season. We will actually see corner and safety blitzes. Alot of newer buc fans have no idea what those are. Have some faith in this staff. There will be no more sitting back watching Julio put up Madden numbers. Cant wait to see these coaches actually outcoach other teams. Been too long.
And from the comments Ive heard and read at this point I’d be surprised if we didnt go Oline in round 1. But then again free agency comes first, next month.

  2. I’m actually cool with all of these, except WalterFootball and ProFootballFocus. SB’s first is a no go, too. Unless that comes after a trade down or two. Better players to be had outside of Gary. If he is the selection, that would only be cool if we pulled out 2 extra seconds and a third or fourth. Otherwise, Oliver, Q. Williams, Taylor, White, J. Williams, all good with me. However, Taylor or White with trade down to 7-9 and grab 2nd and/or 3rd. SB’s projected 2nd rounder I would be more excited with than the first. Though that may be due to his name

  3. Is the salary cap just the 53 man active roster?

    • The team is comprised of the 53 rostered players, ten practice squad players and the players on IR. However, only the top (I think it’s 50+/-) players’ salaries count toward the cap.

    • Good job scub. But more specifically the top 51 players. See the link below subtitle “who is included in a team’s salary cap” with emphasis on the NFL Top 51 Rule.

      • Thank you macabee and scubog I was surprised when I tried searching for the answer myself and wasn’t finding a straight answer. None the places I had found presented the info in way that I felt confident that I understood it correctly.

    • Forgot to mention that at the start of the new league year on March 13th until the start of the first league week of the regular season, NFL teams operate under the “Top 51” rule for salary cap calculations. As you know during the offseason and training camp, NFL teams can maintain a roster of up to 90 active players. Due to the Top 51 rule those teams do not need to account for all 90 players to fit under the team’s adjusted salary cap.

        • I have, he’s a solid back but he will only be as good as our offensive line allows him to be. I just think we should focus on the line before worrying about a running back.

  9. Offensive line is far and away the biggest team need. There are 3 holes in the OL. Jameis AND the running game depend on it. The offense couldn’t score because of no run game in short yardage. They better pick em early and often

      • I’ve been involved with professional sports for 22 years a quarterback rated in the bottom ten every year should be on pins and needles everyday if he’s going to get fired or not it’s not Jameis’fault it’s the management fault they’re morons . Instead This management got to get him weapons got to build a team around him they’re morons maybe if James had a fire under his ass he wouldn’t have been at the bottom 10 ratings

        • Overall Winston is below average and I thing we know exactly what we have at this point. He’s not bottom 10 below average though overall.

I honestly think he would have out performed Goff in the SB, that would have played right into his wheelhouse he one the better QB’s playing when he’s flushed out of the pocket. The biggest difference between him and Mahomes is Mahomes make quicker and better decisions and the result speak for themselves.
