PewterReport.com has confirmed earlier reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms with veteran backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who went 2-1 as a starter last year while replacing injured starter Jameis Winston. The 35-year old Fitzpatrick is expected to sign the deal – likely a one-year contract – on Friday.

Fitzpatrick signed a one-year deal with the Bucs last year that totaled $3.675 million including a $1.75 million base salary, a $1.25 million signing bonus and $675,000 in likely to be earned incentives.

Last year, Fitzpatrick, who will enter his 13th season in the NFL, completed 96-of-163 passes for 1,130 yards (58.9 percent) with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, in addition to running the ball 58 times for 73 yards (5.2 avg.) and picking up five first downs. The Harvard graduate saw action in six games last year and engineered victories over Miami and the New York Jets, his former team.

The Bucs also have Ryan Griffin on the team to compete for the right to back up Winston in 2018. The re-signing of Fitzpatrick likely takes Tampa Bay out of the running to sign Mike Glennon for the backup quarterback job should Chicago release him as expected. Glennon was a third-round draft pick by the Bucs in 2013 and served as the team’s part-time starter as a rookie and in 2014 before becoming Winston’s backup from 2015-16.
