Latest Bucs Headlines

With just two running backs on the roster with proven NFL experience, the Bucs re-signed one of their own on the eve of the NFL Draft.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Tampa Bay has agreed to terms with Charles Sims on a one-year deal to provide some insurance at that position. The Bucs are hoping to address running back over the next three days in the draft, but having Sims, who is obviously familiar with Dirk Koetter’s offense, gives them options.

Sims was a third round pick in in 2014 out of West Virginia and has never had much success as a primary ball carrier, instead Sims best work has come as a complimentary back. His most prodcutive season came in 2015 when he noticed 107 carries for 529 rushing yards to go along with 51 receptions for 561 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. That year he and Doug Martin were the NFL’s best rushing tandem in combined yards from scrimmage.

Sims has also struggled with injuries missing time in 18 games over his first four seasons in the league. He did manage to suit up for all 16 games in 2017 where he led the team with a 4.5 yard average, however that came on just 21 carries.
