Peter King spoke Tuesday on ProFootballTalk about which teams he thought would likely have a head coaching position to fill this offseason and to no one’s surprise he mentioned the Buccaneers.

“Right now the Tampa Bay job is just south of the Cincinnati job on the watch-out-what-job-you-take coaching line right now,” King said. “When you talk to agents of coaches, none of them are excited about the Tampa Bay job unless you have a guy who’s wanted to be a head coach for so long that he’ll take a job anywhere.”

King’s reasoning for Tampa being such an unattractive landing spot for a head coach fell largely on the performance of quarterback Jameis Winston and the uncertainty of general manager Jason Licht.

“To me it’s hard to find somebody good to take Cincinnati and almost as hard this year to go in Tampa,” King continued. “Because A) you don’t know who your quarterback is going to be necessarily. Do you want to pay Jameis Winston a lot of money? He certainly hasn’t demonstrated that he hasn’t earned that money yet. That, plus the fact that you don’t know what the general manager situation going to be, I think there could be a clean sweep in Tampa.”

While the Bucs still have Winston under contract via a team option next season, questions have swirled through Tampa for months as the under-performing Bucs will undoubtedly have decisions to make regarding which jobs – if any – will be retained by Koetter, Winston and Licht.
