The Bucs have just reported on Tuesday that they have signed running back Andre Ellington. The five year veteran had spent almost all of his career playing for the Arizona Cardinals, and played under new Bucs coach Bruce Arians from 2013-2017.
Ellington was let go by the Cardinals in November of 2017 before being claimed off of waivers by the Houston Texans in the same month. In his career, Ellington has 1,750 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. He did not play during the 2018 season.
With starting running back Peyton Barber as a restricted free agent and Jacquizz Rodgers unrestricted, Ellington will fill a needed depth at the running back position while also having familiarity with Arians’ offensive system. The Bucs also have Ronald Jones II, the team’s second-round draft pick, and Shaun Wilson, an undrafted free agent, under contract for 2019.
