While Alan Cross had plans to become a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Memphis, it seems that the versatile player may have had a change of heart. It has been reported that he took a visit with the Kansas City Chiefs according to Greg Auman of the Athletic.

Cross retired after the 2018 season to pursue coaching at Memphis after three years with the Bucs. He joined the team as an undrafted free agent and played in a total of 19 games during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Cross then was a regular on the Bucs in 2018, playing in 14 games before ending the season on IR due to a shoulder injury.

Known for his versatility, Cross played fullback, tight end, and had a role on every special teams unit on the Bucs. He was also a favorite amongst fans and his teammates in the locker room as well.

Upon the announcement of his retirement, Cross was placed on the reserved-retired list. The Bucs non-tendered him as a free agent, making him available as an unrestricted free agent. If he were to decide to play in the NFL again, the Chiefs would most likely bring him in at the start of training camp. They finished one game away from the Super Bowl last season, losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
