With another pick that was received from the Los Angeles Rams in their trade, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Mike Edwards, a safety out of Kentucky, with the 99th overall pick in the third round.

Edwards played in nine games for the Wildcats in 2015, but burst on the scene in 2016 as he reached triple digits with 100 tackles, 5.5 of them going for loss, three interceptions and eight passes defended. As a four-year player and three-year starter, Edwards totaled 317 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, 23 passes defended and two forced fumbles.

He’s a versatile player with good size, range and instincts that will step in with the Bucs and likely be in position to immediately compete for a starting job at the free safety position.

Edwards’ Career Defensive Stats:
2015: 39 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 INT, 2 PBUs, 1 FF.
2016: 100 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, .5 sacks, 3 INT, 8 PBUs.
2017: 96 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 INT, 7 PBUs.
2018: 82 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 2 INT, 6 PBUs, 1 FR, 1 FF.
