Jamel Dean, the Bucs’ third round pick out of Auburn, said he was crying tears of joy when he heard his name called on Friday night. Below is his press conference following the following the selection.

On receiving the phone call from the Bucs
“It was like everything I worked hard for has finally caught up with me. This is probably one of the best feelings of my life.”

On the best attribute to his game
“I’ve got the speed, I’ve got the IQ. I feel like I’m glad that Tampa Bay gave me this opportunity so now I can prove myself even more, because I feel like a lot of teams slept on me but Tampa really had faith in me. I cried, I had tears of joy.”

On who was there with him when he received the call from the Bucs
“It was me, my mom, a lot of relatives around me.”

On overcoming the knee surgeries and reaching this point
“I think about it all the time because once a guy told me that I had a 5% chance to be successful at football and it’s always been on my mind since I got to college.”

On Carlton Davis
“Me and Carlton used to work with each other after practice all the time. We used to do recovery together, we did extra work together and now to be on the same team again it really means a lot to me.”

On his interactions with Todd Bowles
“He told me he liked me. I really felt a good connection with him. I like his guys and I feel like he’s someone I can relate to.”

On the importance of his hand usage at the line of scrimmage
“It means a lot to me but at the same time I know I have to focus on my feet more and my hands are just a bonus. I just need my hands because I know they’ll give me the upper hand in the rep.”

On what he needs to work on to take his game to the next level
“Basically just working on my off coverage and just understanding pass concepts to a tee. I understand them enough, but I want to understand them like an All-Pro cornerback should.”

On if he’s more comfortable in press coverage
“Yeah, I’m more comfortable in press.”
