After releasing Stevie Tu’ikolovatu on Wednesday, the team’s seventh-round draft pick in 2017, it freed a roster spot for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to add wide receiver Xavier Ubosi, a rookie out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Ubosi began his college football career at Pierce College, a community college in Los Angeles, before transferring to UAB. In his junior and senior seasons with the Blazers, Ubosi compiled 1,065 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 48 total receptions.

Most of Ubosi’s production came in his senior season, where he hauled in eight of his nine career touchdowns and after totaling 837 yards on just 35 catches, lead the NCAA with 23.8 yards per reception.

Ubosi is likely added for wide receiver depth as the Bucs have seen a number of their wide outs miss practice time, with Breshad Perriman sitting out due to an injured shoulder while Mike Evans and Cortrelle Simpson were both non-participants at this past Tuesday’s OTA’s.

Ubosi was previously signed and waived by both the New England Patriots and, most recently, the New York Jets before joining the Buccaneers.
