Here we are, in peak NFL offseason form. With the draft having come and gone and the Bucs’ OTAs and mini-camp behind us, it’s almost time for training camp and the preseason to get started.

In the meantime the focus has shifted to analyzing the rosters that are beginning to find their formation heading into this final stretch before the season kicks off. With that in mind, Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report ranked all 32 teams by their backup quarterback situation on Sunday, with the Bucs landing near the middle of the pack at 15.

While last year was a rotating door for the Bucs at quarterback, following a suspension of Jameis Winston, a stretch of poor decision making and periods of stellar play from Ryan Fitzpatrick, this year is looking significantly different with Bruce Arians at the helm. Winston enters his fifth-year option with no off-the-field issue or health issues on the horizon, and with no one breathing down Winston’s neck for a chance at the starting spot, he can enter training camp with a full focus on learning a new system and being quarterback that the franchise always hoped he could become when drafting him first overall in 2015.

Although there is no more FitzMagic in the quarterback room, Gagnon still believes that Tampa Bay is in a comfortable position should Winston be forced to miss any time this year with veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert, long-time backup Ryan Griffin and rookie Nick Fitzgerald all in the mix for a shot at the backup role.
