Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Vincent Testaverde, son of the team’s first overall pick in 1987, Vinny Testaverde.

Testaverde was signed due to the fact that fourth-string quarterback Nick Fitzgerald continues to miss time with a strained hamstring. Fitzgerald is currently on the team’s NFI (non-football injury) list.

The younger Testaverde originally joined the Bucs in May as one of three quarterbacks at the team’s rookie mini-camp on a try-out basis. He was not signed after the rookie mini-camp.

After appearing in one game as a freshman walk-on at Texas Tech, Testaverde transfered to Miami (FL) for his sophomore and junior years. He then transferred to the University of Albany, sat out a year and played in nine games – starting eight – as a senior in 2018 where he totaled 1,714 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.
