After not making an initial waiver claim on Sunday, the Bucs did so on Monday by nabbing running back T.J. Logan.

Logan, known as a speed back and potential kick returner, was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He did not play in a game that season, partially due to a dislocated wrist that kept him out for 12 games, but did play in 10 games in 2018 before getting cut by Arizona on Monday. Bruce Arians was his head coach for his rookie year, so there is familiarity.

The Bucs decided to keep only three running backs on the initial 53-man roster with Peyton Barber, Ronald Jones, and Dare Ogunbowale, while electing to release Andre Ellington and sign rookie Bruce Anderson to the practice squad.

The addition of Logan could help add to the Bucs return game, as he had 12 kickoff returns last season for 296 yards and an average of 24.7 yards per return and should be in contention for that position in Tampa Bay. Right now Jones has been handling kickoff duties, while Bobo Wilson and Scotty Miller have been on punt return.

To make room to put Logan on the 53-man roster, the Bucs waived defensive lineman Pat O’Connor. He is expected to sign to the practice squad should he clear waivers.
