Ever the competitor, Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans teamed up with the popular video game streamer NICKMERCS for a Fortnite tournament this past week that allowed some of the game’s top players to team up with an NFL counterpart for a chance to win money toward a charity of their choice.
On January 16 a draft was held where 16 professional Fortnite players were able to select their teammates from a pool of NFL talent, with participating players including Evans, the Steelers’ JuJu Smith-Schuster, the Browns’ Baker Mayfield, the Cardinals’ Kyler Murray, the Jets’ Jamal Adams, the Bears’ Tarik Cohen – who would go on to win the tournament alongside his teammate Clix – and more.
After the four-game competition had come to a close, NICKMERCS and Evans finished the tournament with 28 points, which was good for seventh place and a $25,000 donation from the event’s $500,000 prize pool.
