Because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across the globe, the NFL has announced that they will change their plans for the 2020 NFL Draft.
While the Draft will remain from April 23-25th, they have decided to cancel all public events for the Draft that were supposed to take place in Las Vegas. This was the first year that the Draft was to be held in Las Vegas to coincide with the Raiders moving into their new home stadium in the same city.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made a public statement on the matter.
“This decision reflects our foremost priority — the health and safety of all fans and citizens,” Goodell said. “While this outcome is disappointing both to the NFL and to the Las Vegas community, we look forward to partnering with the Raiders, the City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for a future NFL Draft as well as evaluating opportunities for other major NFL events in Las Vegas in the future, including the Super Bowl.”
