With a number of injuries plaguing many of the Bucs’ offensive weapons heading into Chicago to take on a strong Bears’ defense on Thursday night, the possibility that Tampa Bay may be forced to grind out an ugly win was evident. And as the final whistle blew on a 20-19 loss for Tampa Bay, the Bucs weren’t able to overcome the injuries, penalties and missed opportunities as they move to 3-2 on the season.

After the Bucs built a 13-0 lead with less than seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, Chicago battled back with two quick touchdowns in the final two minutes of the half to take a 14-13 lead into the locker room. A back-and-forth second half resulted in just 12 total points, five punts and five lead changes between the two teams as quarterback Nick Foles led Chicago down the field before former Tampa Bay kicker Cairo Santos ultimately converted the game-winning, 38-yard field goal with 1:17 remaining. The Bucs had one final chance to drive the field but would convert just one first down before Tom Brady’s fourth-and-5 pass intended for Cam Brate was broken up, thwarting Tampa Bay’s final comeback attempt.

Now sitting at 3-2 on the season, Tampa Bay may fall back to second place in the NFC South as the New Orleans Saints take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, holding the tie-breaker over the Bucs following their match-up in Week 1.
