During Tuesday’s cut-down day, the Bucs waived seventh round cornerback Chris Wilcox. Tampa Bay may have hoped to get the 6-2 corner back on the practice squad, but that won’t happen now. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Indianapolis Colts have successfully put in a waiver claim for Wilcox. He will now join the team’s 53-man roster.

Wilcox was selected with the 251st pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. The BYU product fell behind early, after missing the start of training camp on the PUP list with a hamstring injury. The injury originally occurred in mini-camp, and Wilcox could never quite get into the primary cornerback competition.

Wilcox, a five-year player at BYU, finished with 84 career tackles, eight passes breakups and zero interceptions. During the pre-draft process, Wilcox ran a 4.3 40-yard dash. That blazing speed had the Bucs hoping he would develop into at least a solid gunner on special teams.

The Bucs were awarded no waiver claims. It is not clear yet if they even attempted to claim any players. The waiver claim order is based on last season’s standings until Week 3 of the new league year. As Super Bowl Champions, the Bucs were last in the order.
