Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs have announced they have again used all four practice squad protection spots. This week they have chosen to protect cornerback Pierre Desir, tight end Deon Yelder, safety Troy Warner and kicker Jose Borregales.

It is the third week in a row the Bucs have protected Yelder. The team apparently sees something they like in the young tight end. For Borregales, he will be protected for the second straight week, which should be a common occurrence throughout the season.

Week 2’s protections included cornerback Herb Miller and tackle Brandon Walton. Miller’s release on Monday makes Desir the most likely option to be called up if necessary after a week in the system. Leaning towards the secondary, Walton was replaced this week with Warner. With the secondary banged up he could be elevated should Mike Edwards get more time at nickel.

Each week every team can protect up to four players from the practice squad. This keeps other teams from being able to sign away those protected players. Protection starts on Tuesday and runs until after each team’s game that week until the following Tuesday. Unprotected players can choose to sign with another team’s active roster at any time, while protected players may only do so once their protection is up each week.
