The NFL Scouting Combine can provide a great opportunity for Bucs fans to better understand how emerging prospects emulate their own styles of play to current pro players. USC wide receiver Drake London provided a one such comparable in Bucs Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans during his press availability.

When asked about Evans, London replied, “Yes, I would hope to be like him one day. That’s somebody I look up to. Somebody whose built similar to me and I can take parts of his game and put it into mine.”

It’s not difficult to see the similarities between the two receivers. At 6-foot-5, London is as tall as Evans, although there is a bit of a disparity in their listed weights. London tips the scales somewhere between 205 and 210 pounds. Evans is listed at 225 pounds, but plays around 220.

Still the real comparable is in how they win. Evans has long been known for using his big frame to win contested catches and physically dominate smaller corners. London has made that his calling card for the Trojans. He had more contested catches than any other receiver last year despite only playing in eight games.

London, who is considered to be a first-round pick, had 160 catches for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns in three seasons at USC. He was on a torrid pace during his final year, which was shortened due to a fractured ankle. London caught 88 passes for 1,084 yards (12.3 avg.) and seven TDs despite missing the final five games of the year.

The Bucs are expected to re-sign franchise player Chris Godwin in the coming weeks. But they’ll need another starting-caliber receiver to replace Antonio Brown. Could London be an option for Tampa Bay at No. 27?
