The Bucs signed veteran linebacker Kenny Young to the practice squad. The Athletic’s Greg Auman broke the news on Monday morning.

Young’s signing fills the remaining spot on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. Auman went to suggest that Young, who most recently played for the Broncos and Rams, could be elevated to the 53-man roster later this week for the season opener at Dallas. Young is a quality special teams player, and that’s an area the Bucs struggled in during the preseason.

But he’s also the most experienced reserve linebacker the team has. More than second-year player K.J. Britt and undrafted rookie free agent Olakunle Fatukasi. Tampa Bay also has J.J. Russell, an undrafted free agent inside linebacker, on the practice squad.

Young Has Starred vs. Bucs Before

The 27-year old Young was a fourth-round pick out of UCLA by Baltimore in 2018. Young moved on to play for the Rams in 2019, and he notched five tackles against the Bucs in a 27-24 win during the 2020 season. In Week 3 of the 2021 season, Young had a career-high 10 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against the Bucs in 34-24 win in Los Angeles. He was traded to Denver in Week 8.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Young has played in 59 games with 25 starts. He’s notched 195 career tackles, with 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a pick-six while playing for the Ravens, Rams and Broncos. Young most recently spent the 2022 offseason and training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders prior to being released on August 18. He will wear No. 33 for Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers also reached an injury settlement with cornerback Rashard Robinson, who was originally placed on injured reserve on August 30. Robinson can re-sign with the Bucs after the fourth game of the 2022 season.
