The play itself has sparked a lot of controversy over player safety and how defenders can still be physical in the game of football. With 3:03 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Bucs looking to close out the game by converting a third-and-5 from the Falcons’ 47,  Brady was sacked by Grady Jarrett that presumably would’ve ended the drive.

But the Bucs were saved as Jarrett was penalized for an unnecessary roughness penalty as he twisted and spun the quarterback to the ground. As Jarrett celebrated the penalty he kind of walked over Brady, which now led to the infraction that got him penalized.

Brady Comments On Officiating

Many people around the league saw the penalty as the league overcompensating for a tough hit on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. At the time, Brady said after the game that he doesn’t throw the flags. On Thursday, he expanded on the overall officiating in the league.

“No one wants any missed calls,” Brady said. “You don’t want a missed pass interference call, you don’t want a missed holding call, you don’t want a missed illegal contact call. They don’t want a call on them. I don’t know, we’re trying to eliminate every missed penalty? Every batter wants every strike called perfectly. I don’t know how you do that.

“I don’t have all the answers to all those [things]. I don’t think the referees are robots. I don’t think they’re trying to get it wrong. I don’t think they’re always going to get it right. I feel bad for a guy when they get called for something that probably shouldn’t be that way. Sometimes you’ve just got to shake it off. I’ve lost Super Bowls because I thought they missed a call.”

Brady ended his statement in comical way that will surely rile up fans that root against him.

“If you get an unfortunate thing that happens, it’s unfortunate, it really is,” Brady said. “I don’t think anyone’s trying to scheme anyone out of that, it’s just the way sports are. I miss throws, refs miss calls, but we try to do the best we can do and when they don’t go your way you just complain to the refs like I do.”
