Heading into his third season, Kyle Trask is settling into the role of being a starting quarterback. Whether he gets the role entering the season is yet to be determined, but he is approaching each day this offseason with a confident attitude. It is something that has caught the attention of his Bucs teammates, including one of the guys he works closely with in the backfield.

Bucs RB Rachaad White on Kyle Trask: “You Can Tell He Has Put In A Lot Of Work”

On the Pewter Report Podcast this week, Bucs running back Rachaad White spoke on what he likes about Kyle Trask’s game and just how much different he looks out on the field during OTAs.

“I just like how he comes out – makes the right plays, right reads,” White said Wednesday. “He just kind of lets the game come to him, he doesn’t rush. He doesn’t force anything; he just trusts the process. You can tell he has put in a lot of work, and you can just see it.”

One can tell Trask is slimmer in OTAs, and Trask himself stated after practice this week that he had lost 5-10 pounds over this offseason.

Now more than ever, Trask can prepare and guide the offense as if he was leading them on game day. In White’s mind, he sees him as being more comfortable with his role as he gets his chance.

“Guys really like him as well, too,” White added. “You can tell his confidence and his swagger, for sure, have gone up and kind of went through the roof. It’s just good to see; a guy like that has been waiting years and [spending] time behind Tom Brady, the best to ever do it. To get his chance now is just a blessing. That’s all you can ask for is a chance to compete.”

Trask still got plenty of reps in practice and the preseason learning from Brady, someone who worked vigorously in terms of preparation, health, and competitiveness. That is something he is hoping to emulate.

Kyle Trask Reflects On Learning From Tom Brady (And Others)

There is something to be said about waiting your turn behind an accomplished signal caller. Joe Montana to Steve Young. Drew Bledsoe to Brady. Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers. Alex Smith to Patrick Mahomes. Kyle Trask may never reach those heights, but sitting behind and learning has benefited more than one quarterback.

With his future in his hands, it is all about bringing out the best in himself on and off the field.

“It’s going into my third year, Trask said Tuesday. “I’m just feeling a lot more confident as a player. I’ve really been dialed in off the field, whatever it is – sleeping, eating habits. I’m just really trying to dial everything in and make the most of my opportunity.”

While he spent the past two seasons as a sponge and watching games from the sideline, he was around three veteran quarterbacks who each provided advice and things to model. Earlier this spring, he commented on what he learned from each of them. Trask reiterated his appreciation of the now-former Bucs quarterbacks who have moved on.

“Tom is just a pro through and through, so that was such a blessing for me to come into a quarterback room filled with him, Blaine [Gabbert] and Ryan [Griffin], and obviously Clyde [Christensen] and Byron [Leftwich]. They had all the experience in the world, so just to come into that room and just try to soak up as much knowledge while I was in there, that is a priceless experience for me.”

He also made sure to ask No. 12 plenty of questions. It is not often you get two seasons to pick his brain.

“He always had great answers for any questions I asked him,” Trask detailed. “They all were really good to me, and I tried to soak up as much as I could while he was there because I knew it wasn’t going to last forever.

“I was more just taking the approach of trying to stay back, see how it’s done and just soaking up as much as I could. It was more just focused on getting the job done one day at a time when it came to game time with that group.”

Now with those days gone, he can now step up in the room with the valuable insight he has gained.

Kyle Trask Is Focused On Improving Every Day

Competition is designed to bring out the best in someone. As the battle between Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield continues onward, there will be many eyes fixated on each of them and how they perform. That does not seem to bother the now third-year quarterback.

“You can sit there and try to overanalyze yourself, but at the end of the day, you just have to be yourself and trust yourself,” Trask detailed. “If you’re doing the right thing, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. If you know you’re coming on time and being the best leader you can, and the best teammate, you don’t have to sit there and overanalyze yourself. Just be who you are, and I think the guys will really respect that.

“I just try to get a little bit better every day. One thing for me is just trying to pick out one thing while I am at practice, and if I can improve on at least one thing every day then I will be able to just stack a foundation and keep it growing.”

The added confidence Rachaad White was referring to is there. Now it’s up to Kyle Trask to pair it with improving and building upon each day.
