The Bucs have made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, just a day before their first training camp practice of the 2026 season. Tampa Bay has placed corner Chase Lucas and defensive tackle Haggai Ndubuisi on the Active/Physically Unable To Perform List, also known as the PUP list. They have also waived safety Ja’Qurious Conley with a non-football injury designation.
With it pertaining to Lucas and Ndubuisi, they will both still count towards the 90-man roster and are eligible to be activated at any time before the 53-man roster deadline after the end of the preseason.
Bucs Make Roster Moves
Ndubuisi has been in the league since 2022. Coming from Nigeria, he had not previous football playing other than watching games on YouTube and getting a tryout through the International Player Pathway – a program to help increase the number of players outside the United Sates of America and Canada.
He has mostly played on practice squads with Cardinals, Broncos , Patriots and Commanders. Ndubuisi finally made his NFL debut last season, playing in one game for the Texans.

With the latest news about Vita Vea requesting a trade, it was going to open some more opportunities for other defensive linemen. While the spots for Calijah Kancey and A’Shawn Robinson are secure, several other players are trying to get a role on the active roster or even the practice squad. Ndubuisi will be in competition with the likes of Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Jayson Jones, Josiah Green, Elijah Simmons and DeShawn McKninght for a position.
The Bucs also have young players like Elijah Roberts going into year two and DeMonte Capehart, who was drafted in the fifth round this year. They have to earn their spots, too, but it would be a shock if they didn’t make the team.

Lucas is a name that was talked about more due to the lack of depth at corner for Tampa Bay. He played his college football at Arizona State and was selected by the Lions in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent two years with Detroit and two seaosn with 49ers before singing with the Bucs this offseason. Lucas has played in 33 career games with no starts or interceptions, recording just one pass breakup. He technically has veteran experience but not a lot of snaps on defense.
Tampa Bay is in a odd situation at corner. They have three potential starters in Zyon McCollum, Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish. Only one had a good season last year, and that was Parrish. It was poor play by McCollum and an injury filled season by Morrison that did them in, leaving the cornerback room in flux.

Ideally, Parrish has earned one spot at outside corner even though he played a lot in the nickel a season ago. McCollum is likely to be the other starter, although that can be adjusted quickly. After those three Josh Hayes is likely the next man up, although he’s struggled in his time having to play corner and is more slated to help out on special teams.
If Lucas were to recover before camp ends, he is to compete with Kemon Hall and rookie undrafted free agent Ayden Garnes for a chance to make the team in one way or another.
