The Bucs held their second joint practice against the Jets at Florham Park, NJ on Wednesday after a scuffle-filled practice on Tuesday. The two teams went at it again on Wednesday before a day off on Thursday and then meeting once more in the preseason opener on Friday night.

Following another day of training camp, let’s take a look at the list of studs and duds from the action on Wednesday in Tampa Bay’s second joint practice of 2026. Matt Matera was on hand at the Bucs-Jets practice and contributed to this report.

Studs From Day 11 Of Bucs Training Camp

OLB Rueben Bain Jr.

After notching a pair of impressive tackles for loss on Tueday, Rueben Bain Jr. unleashed the beast against the Jets on Wednesday, especially as a pass rusher. In one-on-one drills, Bain blew past Olu Fashanu with a jump step, which set up a swim move right past the Jets starting left tackle for a sack. If you blinked, you missed it. Then Bain had a sack in 11-on-11 team drills and he also drew a holding penalty on New York in the two-minute drill and severely impacted what they were able to do. Bain was a menace as a pass rusher on Wednesday.

CB Ayden Garnes

Surprisingly, Ayden Garnes didn’t have a single pass breakup on Tuesday in the first joint practice with the Jets. The Bucs undrafted free agent has routinely had at least a pass breakup or two in most practices during training camp. After getting beat early in practice, Garnes caught fire as the day went on and had two big pass breakups in the two-minute drill. He learned a lot through two days having to cover Garrett Wilson often. Garnes had tight coverage and his last pass breakup essentially ended the Jets’ final drive. He has to be the Bucs’ leader in pass breakups during training camp with at least a dozen so far.

TE Cade Otton

Cade Otton made several receptions on intermediate throws from Baker Mayfield, picking up around 15 yards in chunks. Then at the end of practice as Mayfield snapped the ball on the last play on offense, Otton hauled in a short touchdown pass (his second of the day) in the end zone for the score. Someone has to come up big in those moments, and Mayfield has all the trust in the world in Otton in those situations. Otton’s touchdown earlier in practice also came from Mayfield.

WR Ted Hurst III

After a quiet start to the joint practice with the Jets on Tuesday, Ted Hurst III had a great day on Wednesday and was targeted a bunch. He only had one drop, but made several catches – mostly on the slant passes – that moved the chains for Tampa Bay’s offense. He made a terffic sideline cathc down the field where he was able to keep his feet in bounds for a completed catch. Hurst saved his best for last during the team’s two-minute drill, hauling in two passes from Baker Mayfield and also drew a pass interference penalty on New York in the end zone attempting to run a fade pattern to the back corner. Hurst was a huge reason why the Bucs were able to move the football near the end of practice with Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka unavailable.

Bucs Rushing Attack

Tampa Bay set the tempo on Wednesday with its ground game during 11-on-11s. Bucky Irving had a nice 10-yard carry at the start and then Kenny Gainwell ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run off the right side of the offensive line. That was good for Gainwell, as he’s been involved a lot in the receiving game, but hasn’t done much in camp in terms of running the ball. Sean Tucker also had a 10-yard touchdown run, and the rushing attack really opened up Tampa Bay’s play-action passing attack.

Duds From Day 11 Of Bucs Training Camp

OT Ben Chukwuma

For the second straight day, Ben Chukwuma was getting rag-dolled by Jets edge rusher Will McDonald IV. Chukwuma had a great start to training camp, but has really struggled the last three practices, dating back to Sunday’s performance back in Tampa. Chukwuma was pulling ahead of Justin Skule for the swing tackle job, but now that job may be up for grabs – and perhaps even Skule’s to lose now. Chukwuma is a former undrafted free agent, and against the Jets’ first-round picks like McDonald and David Bailey, the talent differential shows up.

RT Luke Goedeke

After getting heavily involved in a few practice fights with the Jets on Tuesday, Goedeke cooled off on Wednesday. Unfortunately so did his play. After playing to a draw yesterday against first-round pick David Bailey, Bailey got the better of Goedeke in the second joint practice in both one-on-ones and 11-on-11s. Goedeke didn’t get dominated, but there had to be a winner in those matchups and that winner was oftentimes Bailey. This is not a knock on Goedeke. Rather it speaks volumes about how talented Bailey is and how good he will be in the NFL.
