The Buccaneers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end in Dallas on Sunday night after losing to the Cowboys 26-20. Below is the transcript from Bucs QB Jameis Winston’s press conference following the game.

On tonight’s overall performance
“We’ve got to take care of the football. You can’t turn the ball over four times, and beat a good team like this.”

On the head butt penalty
“I was protecting my teammate. Doug (Martin) runs hard for us all the time, and got thrown on the ground late. It was passion versus emotion and I can’t do it.”

On what clicked for them in the second half
“We executed the ball and we took care of the football. If you take care of the football, you are a hard team to stop.”

On what positive things he will take out of tonight’s game
“The only thing is, we competed. They are a good team, and we competed. We fought to the end, and it’s something to build off of.”

On his thoughts about the team struggling in the red zone
“We’ve just got to get better every week. We had a touchdown in the red zone, and we didn’t get that many opportunities to get in the red zone this game. We went 3-for-3 in the red zone with one touchdown. We’ve just got to continue to get better every single day.”

On what he thinks about this game affecting their post season
“We just have to keep winning and see how it plays out. I’m going to keep fighting and I am not worried about not fighting. We just need to keep winning games and the more games we win, the better chance we have to get into the postseason.”

On being in a strong atmosphere tonight and handling it
“I believe we were ready, and when you go out there and turn the ball over, the first drive, that doesn’t really help you, when their (Cowboys) defense is playing as good as their playing. I just got to protect the football and find a way to win some games for us.”

On his performance tonight and trying to protect the football
“I’m trying to compete, that’s all. Sometimes you’ve just got to eat it, and carry on to the next play. Definitely can’t turn the ball over on your side of the field. That hurts your defense.”

On what he said to some of his guys and halftime and got them to move the ball at will
“We were confident. We felt we were made for a time like this. We just stood by eachother, we are still a family. Just because we lost doesn’t mean we will separate from eachother. We are family and we are going to keep fighting together. This is just something for us to build on. We are still on the up and up. We’ve got another game next week against the Saints, another division matchup, those really count. We’ve got to keep our heads up and keep on fighting.”

On how he prevents this loss turning into two or three
“You hit next week hard, and your goal is to go 1-0 against the Saints, and then the next week you go 1-0, and the next week you go 1-0, and start stacking up those one win seasons.”

On being in Dak Prescott’s shoes not to long ago, and what he sees of him on the field
“He’s amazing. He’s playing really good, and the team is playing really good around him. He’s got a great young running back in Zeke, who’s playing very good. He’s taking care of the football. He definitely won the turnover battle against me tonight, so that’s how you win games.”

On if the Cowboys did something in the fourth quarter to make things more difficult for them
“They got some pressure on us. Like I said, I still have to take care of the football in those situations, find ways to get better in the pocket, but it’s definitely something for us to build off of. They played good. They tried to close the door, they were on their home field, and they move well on their home field.”

On the team not giving up nor quitting, despite the losses this season
“I just can’t turn the ball over four times against a team that doesn’t give us the opportunity we usually get to score football, and a team with a powerful offense. Our defense played great. To hold this team to 26 points and six points came off of me turning over the football, on our side of the football. They stopped me twice, to hold them to a field goal. We just got to protect the football. That’s what wins games in this league. Protecting the football and executing.”

On the team culture in finding ways to lose some of these winnable games and not doing that tonight. Is that something positive he can take from this?
“You always have to build on positives and eliminate the negatives. We just have to move on to next week. I’ve never known our team to give up and have quit in them. I really don’t know what you are talking about. We just have to keep fighting and bounce back next week. We’ve got another tough opponent on the road with the Saints, so we’ve got to put this one behind us and have a great Christmas.”
