The Bucs will have yet another player in the 2022 Pro Bowl this week. Vita Vea replaces Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald in the Pro Bowl. Los Angeles defeated San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game, which means Donald will spend the week preparing to face Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
It’s the first Pro Bowl berth for Vea, who was Tampa Bay’s first-round pick in 2018. The Bucs extended Vea’s contract through the 2026 season with a new deal that will pay him an average of $17.75 million per year.
Vea had a career-high four sacks in 2021. He’s one of nine Bucs players named to the 2022 Pro Bowl roster. That matches the franchise record for a single season. Vea joins outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett, quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Mike Evans, center Ryan Jensen, guard Ali Marpet, linebacker Devin White, safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. and tackle Tristan Wirfs as Pro Bowlers this season.
Brady (aggravated shoulder) and Wirfs (ankle injury) will not play in the game.
Wirfs, Brady, Jensen, Marpet and Barrett were all original Pro Bowl selections. Evans, White, Winfield and Vea were alternates selected due to injuries or players opting out.
