Bucs general manager Jason Licht came to the podium for his yearly pre-draft press conference on Wednesday. He answered some questions from the media about draft strategies and things the team might be planning.
But, the big news on the day was when he announced that Buccaneers linebacker Kendell Beckwth was involved in a car accident last week in his home state of Louisiana.
#Bucs LB Kendell Beckwith was in a car accident last week while back in Louisiana and had to have surgery on his ankle. Will miss all of OTA and likely time in training camp. They’re hoping he can be ready for Week 1.

Licht detailed the accident a little saying that Beckwith did have injuries from the accident that required surgery. He said specifically that there was a fracture to Beckwith’s ankle. Licht said they’re just thankful the accident wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

The timetable for a broken ankle is usually somewhere between 6-8 weeks for the bone to heal, then some varying rehabilitation after that. Beckwith will likely miss all of OTAs, possibly all of training camp and may not even be ready for Week 1.

Time will tell, but according to fellow linebacker Kwon Alexander, Beckwith’s spirits are high.
