Latest Bucs Headlines

It is NFL Draft season and the mock drafts from the NFL experts and pundits are being published nearly every day and making their picks for the Bucs. Each week until the 2020 NFL Draft in April, PewterReport.com will scour the Internet to find the list of players that are projected to Tampa Bay and put out the list with the links. Free agency has caused some mock drafts to be adjusted as teams have filled the needs on their roster by signing veteran players.

NEW MOCK DRAFTS THIS WEEK

Jon Ledyard – PewterReport.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Houston OT Josh Jones
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Georgia RB D’Andre Swift
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: Washington QB Jacon Eason
“Jones’ detractors point to his unorthodox pass sets and wonder how he’ll acclimated to a totally different caliber of pass rusher in the NFL. These questions are very fair, and it is undoubtedly the difficulty in evaluating Jones, or any other non-Power 5 offensive lineman.

The good news about Jones is that while he certainly has some room to grow in his footwork, his tape is about as dominant in pass protection as one can be, and that’s been the case going back the past two or three seasons. The redshirt senior just hardly allowed a dent in his four seasons as a starter, locking down the left side with excellent hand usage, a strong anchor and the ability to mirror pass rush counters with smooth feet.” – Jon Ledyard

Luke Easterling – The Draft Wire
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Minnesota S Antoine Winfield Jr.
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: USC WR Michael Pittman Jr.
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick: Memphis RB Antonio Gibson
Buc’s Fourth Round Pick: Arkansas DT McTelvin Agim
Bucs’ Fifth Round Pick: Charlotte Edge Alex Highsmith
Bucs’ Sixth Round Pick: Michigan OT Jon Runyan

Vinnie Iyer – The Sporting News
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: Ohio State RB J.K. Dobbins
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: Louisiana OL Robert Hunt
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick: Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick:Utah S Julian Blackmon
Bucs’ Fifth Round Pick: Nebraska DT Khalil Davis
Bucs’ Sixth Round Pick: Pittsburgh CB Dane Jackson
“The Buccaneers are OK with left tackle Donovan Smith, left guard Ali Marpet, center Ryan Jensen and right guard Alex Cappa in front of Tom Brady, but they need better protection on the right edge with Demar Doston being a free agent. Thomas matches great size (6-5, 315 pounds) with good hands and footwork. Brady, Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich also will love what Thomas can do to open holes for the running game.” – Vinnie Iyer

Neal Driscoll – Pro Football Network
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: LSU S Grant Delpit
Bucs’ Third Round Pick: Washington QB Jacob Eason
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick: Alabama Edge Anfernee Jennings
Bucs’ Fourth Round Pick: Minnesota WR Tyler Johnson
Bucs’ Fifth Round Pick: Fresno State OL Netane Muti
Bucs’ Sixth Round Pick: Michigan LB/S Khaleke Hudson
“After acquiring Tom Brady in free agency, it is vital that the Buccaneers protect him. Andrew Thomas is a plug-and-play left tackle from day one and will keep Brady upright for the Bucs.” – Neal Driscoll

Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo – Pro Football Focus
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Louisville OT Mekhi Becton
This is another spot I’m not in love with from a value standpoint, and the Buccaneers have an interesting decision to make here. Ultimately, as much as they’re talking up the prospects of Joe Haeg at right tackle, I’m not risking Tom Brady to that kind of assault, so the Mekhi Becton pick is to prevent that. Becton’s pass protection is a question mark, but it’s one of his unknowns rather than outright flaws or red flags. Regardless, his upside is too much to turn down for Tampa Bay, and if nothing else, he’s a long way to run around to get to Brady.” – Sam Monson

Jenny Vrentas – Sports Illustrated
Bucs’ First Round Pick (Pick 9 From Jaguars): Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
“The Bucs need to protect their 42 ½-year old QB, and there’s a decent chance they would miss out on all four of the top tackles if they stayed at pick No. 14. Thomas was an All-American at right tackle his freshman year, then moved to left tackle for the rest of his college career. He could start immediately at RT, where the Bucs have a hole.” – Jenny Vrentas

Dan Kadar – SB Nation
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Houston OT Josh Jones
“Yes, this is the fifth offensive tackle off the board within the first 14 picks. But offensive tackle is a position we’ve seen overdrafted in the past. Remember last year when the Texans used the 23rd pick on Tytus Howard of Alabama State? Or the Raiders in 2018 taking Kolton Miller 15th? Hopefully Jones works out if he’s drafted this highly — and his athletic profile suggests he might — but getting protection for Tom Brady is critical.” – Dan Kadar

Trevor Sikkema – The Draft Network
Bucs’ First Round Pick (Pick 8 From Cardinals): Alabama OT Jedrick Wills
Bucs’ Second Round Pick: LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Cody Benjamin – CBS Sports
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
“A trade up for someone like Wills would be ideal, but the reasoning for Thomas is the same: They need an OT who can help keep Tom Brady upright, and they need one now.” – Cody Benjamin

Ryan Wilson – CBS Sports
Bucs’ First Round Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas
“This is best-case for the Bucs, who need a right tackle because they signed some guy named Tom Brady. Thomas is a top-flight left tackle who began his college career on the right side.” – Ryan Wilson

Cynthia Frelund – NFL.com
Bucs’ First Round Pick: South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw
“My model projects Kinlaw’s production at interior defensive line would add more to Tampa’s 2020 wins than any available O-lineman (adding right tackle Joe Haeg shifted this) or defensive back. Kinlaw’s Day 1 impact in Todd Bowles’ system forecasts to be most felt against the pass, which will help the Bucs’ young defensive backfield, as the front and back of defenses complement each other.” – Cynthia Frelund
