Just hours before kickoff, the Bucs have added some critical reinforcements to the roster. Cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting and long snapper Zach Triner have been activated off injured reserve. Both players should be available as needed on Monday night.
Murphy-Bunting has been out since Week 1 with a dislocated elbow. The Bucs could really use him, as fellow starter Carlton Davis remains on injured reserve. Richard Sherman, brought in to replace Davis, is also on IR. If he’s able, Murphy-Bunting will start across from Jamel Dean against the Giants in Week 11. On Saturday, Bruce Arians made it clear they won’t overwork him in his return.
“Getting him back is one thing, but playing 60 plays is another,” Arians said. “They haven’t played very much football. Sean’s been out a long time. So we can’t overload him. But there are spots, if we get him back in there, that he can help us for sure. And gradually get his role back. The same thing when Carlton [Davis] hopefully comes back. Don’t throw them out there so fast that they re-injure themselves.”

Jamel Dean will start at right cornerback for Tampa Bay. In the slot, Ross Cockrell ceded his job to Mike Edwards last week. Defensive Coordinator Todd Bowles suggested that was a game plan switch, not a permanent change. One of those two will likely play nickel on Monday night. Murphy-Bunting could start at left cornerback, but likely won’t play every snap. Dee Delaney cleared concussion protocol on Monday morning, so he’s available. He and Pierre Desir have split the left cornerback duties in the absence of Davis and Sherman.
Long snapper Zach Triner went on injured reserve with a finger injury in Week 1. He was replaced by free agent Carson Tinker.
Meanwhile, Scotty Miller remains on injured reserve. Miller’s activation may not come until Tuesday. But Tampa Bay could have used him against the Giants. In exchange, the Bucs elevated Breshad Perriman from the practice squad for the second straight week.
The Bucs are without Antonio Brown for the fourth straight game, opening up some opportunities. Tyler Johnson will likely maintain the majority of the third receiver reps in Week 11. But there was a chance for Miller to pick up 10-15 snaps and create a splash play or two. Arians has made it clear that Miller is physically ready to play. Also, the Bucs have been sorely missing another vertical threat over the past few weeks. Now they’ll face New York with just Perriman and Jaelon Darden as backups.
The Bucs (6-3) host the Giants (3-6) on Monday Night Football.
