Sloppiness doesn’t even to begin to describe the Bucs’ 20-10 win over the Saints on Sunday afternoon. Tom Brady and the offense struggled most of the day, but were saved by the defense. Todd Bowles’ unit was locked in all game long, but it really came alive late in the fourth quarter, coming up with with four turnovers in just nine plays.

The momentum-shifting sequence came after a brawl erupted early in the fourth, which resulted in a Mike Evans ejection. While it cost the offense its best weapon, it may have been just the spark the team needed. Tampa Bay finally got over the hump after seven straight regular season losses to New Orleans, improving to 2-0 on the year.

Here are the most impressive players from the Bucs’ Week 2 victory over the Saints.

CB Jamel Dean

Dean had great coverage on Chris Olave all game, holding him to just four receptions on 10 targets. But his biggest play of the game came on a diving interception of Jameis Winston early in the fourth quarter. The turnover led to the offense’s first and only touchdown of the game. Then, on the Saints’ very next possession, Dean came away with another diving pick on a Winston overthrow. The Bucs added three more points after that interception on a Ryan Succop field goal.

WR Breshad Perriman

Perriman had the Bucs’ only touchdown of the game, hauling in a beautifully thrown 28-yard pass in the back of the endzone. He also had a key third-down conversion on the Bucs’ first field goal drive. Perriman finished the game with three receptions for 45 yards and the score.

DB Mike Edwards

The Jameis Winston Bucs fans know best was back in Tampa Bay’s win over the Saints. After throwing back-to-back picks on the two previous drives, Winston threw another one to Edwards, who returned it 67 yards for a touchdown. Remember, Edwards won NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 2 last season thanks to two pick-sixes against Matt Ryan. He continued his Week 2 dominance on Sunday with yet another defensive score.

WR Mike Evans

Evans was the only Bucs receiver that could find any sort of consistent separation on Sunday. He had a big third-down conversion on the Bucs’ first drive. And the Pro Bowl receiver also broke free of coverage for a huge 41-yard gain on another third down. Coming out of the half, Evans created nice separation from Marshon Lattimore to gain 10 yards for the first down. Unfortunately, Evans was disqualified from the game in the fourth quarter after a violent shove on Marcus Lattimore during a brawl. However, the fight and subsequent ejection seemed to spark the Bucs to victory.

LB Lavonte David

David had a huge sack on the Saints’ second drive of the game that would’ve set up a punt. But a questionable late hit penalty on Keanu Neal gave New Orleans a first down. David nearly recovered Winston’s fumble that Shaq Barrett caused in the second quarter and drew a huge false start penalty on the next play to force a Saints punt. He finished the game with six tackles.

OLB Shaq Barrett

Barrett ended the Saints’ second drive of the game with a two-yard tackle for loss on Taysom Hill. Late in the second quarter, Barrett came up with a strip-sack on a scrambling Winston that set up a key fourth down after a Saints recovery. Barrett capped off his day with another sack as time was winding down in the fourth quarter.

DB Antoine Winfield Jr.

Winfield came up with a huge sack as the Saints were trying to put a scoring drive together in the final two minutes of the first half. He finished the game with seven tackles.

OT Brandon Walton

Walton was thrust into the left tackle spot after an injury to Josh Wells. It was his first-ever game action in the regular season, and he held his own. Walton had zero penalties and looked good in pass protection and run-blocking snaps.

MLB Devin White

While White had some missed tackles early in the game, he made up for it in the fourth quarter. White registered 1.5 sacks against Winston and was all over the place with 11 total tackles. He had a near pick-six himself as the fourth quarter was winding down.

OLB Carl Nassib and DB Logan Ryan

Ryan made a huge play by punching the ball out of Mark Ingram’s hands as the Saints were driving into the red zone. Nassib was there with the heads-up play to recover the fumble after a fight for it at the bottom of the pile.

Pass Protection

While the Tampa Bay offensive line struggled mightily to get anything going in the run game, it was surprisingly very effective in pass protection. Brady had time to attempt multiple deep throws, including the 28-yard touchdown to give the Bucs the lead.

Special Teams

Led by Jake Camarda’s booming punts, the Bucs limited dangerous return man Deonte Harty to just 65 yards on two kick returns and -6 yards on his lone punt return attempt. Ryan Succop nailed two field goals from 47 yards out and Jaelon Darden had a nice 17-yard punt return. This group has really turned it around after a rough preseason.
