The Bucs had two linebackers tryout with the team on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson. Tampa Bay brought in T.J. Brunson and Leon Jacobs for a workout.

The Bucs have been pleased with backup linebackers K.J. Britt and Grant Stuard. Those two appear to be locks to make the team again. Britt is the front-runner for the No. 3 linebacker spot, replacing Kevin Minter, who wasn’t re-signed. Stuard is a special teams ace who lead the team in special teams tackles last year as a rookie.

Stuard has recovered from offseason hip surgery. That recovery forced him to miss the entire offseason, OTAs and mini-camps. But Stuard passed his physical and was cleared for training camp. He has only missed one practice so far this summer.

Tampa Bay added a pair of undrafted free agents this year in J.J. Russell and Olakunle Fatukasi. Neither has dazzled in camp so far. So perhaps the Bucs wanted to see if Brunson or Jacobs would be an upgrade.

NFL Trade Rumors noted that Jacobs was a seventh-round pick in Jacksonville in 2018. He was cut by the Jaguars last July and missed most of the 2020 season with an ACL tear. Jacobs played in 29 games in Jacksonville with 56 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
