Adam Slivon offers his Top 10 Takeaways after the Bucs lost to the Vikings 23-16 in Week 3. In what has been a worst-case scenario for Tampa Bay, they have fallen to 0-3, with Baker Mayfield expected to be out for several weeks with a dislocated right thumb. It was a new week but the same results for a team that looks completely out of sync.

Despite the optimism surrounding the offense led by offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, they are lost under his playcalling. Mayfield struggled before leaving the game, while the rushing attack stalled out as Riley Dixon punted nine times on Sunday. Going 2-17 on third down is not going to cut it, and neither is having Chase McLaughlin kick three field goals because the offense can’t punch it in.
No wide receiver is consistently involved, either. Ted Hurst III got wide open on a 40-yard touchdown, then disappeared for the rest of the game. Want to talk about the offensive line? They are literally holding the unit back. Yeah, it’s not good.
Defensively, the team was at its best in Week 3. They did their job limiting Kyler Murray, even though he was without Justin Jefferson for much of the game. Murray did seem affected by the pass rush more than Joe Burrow and Deshaun Watson were, but it can still improve. One way it can do so? By playing outside David Walker more. He is the only outside pass rusher who can get to the quarterback.

Walker, Josiah Trotter, and A’Shawn Robinson are the team’s three best defenders through three games. While that is a positive development, what does that say about players like Vita Vea, Antoine Winfield Jr., Yaya Diaby, and Calijah Kancey? I’ll tell you, they are not worth their price tags or worth extending.
Heading into Week 4, it’s Jalon Daniels’ time in Tampa Bay. Daniels will need everything he’s got facing the Packers in Week 4. There will be a lot of cheeseheads in the stands at Raymond James Stadium, and it is hard to blame fans for not showing up. The writing is on the wall, as the Glazers will be forced into making difficult decisions. Winning the NFC South used to not be good enough. Whatever this is, it has to end.
