Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans has helped a ton of people in the community through charitable efforts over the years and that continued on Thursday when Evans donated $100,000 for Coronavirus relief through his Mike Evans Family Foundation.
The foundation, which Evans and his wife Ashli started in 2017, will donate $50,000 to his hometown of Galveston, Texas, and another $50,000 will go to United Way Suncoast in Tampa Bay. United Way Suncoast aims to break generational poverty throughout the Florida sun coast region and are currently helping 53,000 civilians over 31,000 households during these times.
“These critical dollars will do so much to help families who are struggling in this crisis,” United Way Suncoast CEO Jessica Muroff said.
This is one of the many charitable acts that Evans has done throughout this years, which includes annual bowling events and golf outings to scholarship money for students going to college, supporting women’s shelters and families of domestic violence, giving a $25,000 grant to USF for a scholarship fund, and having his annual “Catch For Christmas” where he provides lower income children gifts that were on their wish list. Evans was the Bucs 2019 Walter Payton Man Of The Year nominee.
General manager Jason Licht spoke with the media to talk about the upcoming draft but also took the time to answer a question about what it meant to him to see Evans make a donation like this.
“It’s awesome, it’s not surprising from Mike,” Licht said. “He was our [Walter Payton] Man Of The Year candidate from the Bucs last year and deservingly so. He’s just an awesome, awesome person as well and I feel our entire locker room, we’ve got a bunch of great guys.. I’m sure it won’t be the last person but definitely it makes you feel great, it makes you feel like you’re doing a good job with my staff and Bruce and his staff of bringing in the right kind of guys.”
