With the 36th pick in the NFL Draft, the Bucs selected running back Ronald Jones.

Jones is a game-breaking dynamic running back, who rushed fro 3,619 yards and 39 touchdowns at USC, including 1,550 yards and 19 scores last year. Jones is a slasher with great vision and enough power to break arm tackles despite not being a big back. Jones has drawn comparisons to Jamaal Charles, which is pretty accurate. Jones wasn’t involved too much in the Trojans’ passing game, but did contribute 32 catches for 302 yards and three TDs during his three-year career.

The USC Trojan had 14 100-yard games and 13 explosive plays (12 runs, one catch) of 40 yards or more in college. Seven of those explosive plays traveled 60 yards or more.

Jones is expected to compete for the starting job that came open when Tampa Bay parted ways with Doug Martin following last season. Tampa Bay has Jaquizz Rodgers, Peyton Barber returning and just this week re-signed free agent Charles Sims to a one-year deal.

Shortly after being drafted Jones joined the local media via a conference call and was asked who his game compares to.

“I would say Chris Johnson back when he was playing. I thought I embodied a little bit of LeSean McCoy, I love his game. Todd Gurley—I like his game too. Those are some guys I watch.”

PewterReport.com also asked him how he feels being a three-down back and his comfort level in pass protection.

“Most definitely. I consider myself a three-down back. There are areas for improvement technique wise. Just getting back to the fundamentals. I’m eager to get to work. Let’s get it.”

I really wanted Nick Chubb, haven’t seen much of Jones, but he might be a better compliment to Barber as a slasher.

Jones can fly and he’s more physical than Barkley.

Being from USC I didn’t get a chance to watch Ron (love that name since it’s mine) Jones as much as the SEC running backs. After watching the video, he looks to be just what we’ve been missing at the position since the great Warrick Dunn. In fact, I’ve been digging through my memory banks trying to remember any back like him we’ve had since we’ve mostly had a lot of plodders. Jerry Eckwood came to mind. With Peyton Barber and Ron Jones we just might get the Defensive Coordinator’s attention this season. Thunder and Lighting 2.0?

I like this pick, his highlight film is pretty impressive and the more I watched them the more I’ve come to like this RB. I’m glad Chubb was taken so we couldn’t get him. I seen Chubb as another Doug Martin, his film looked a lot like Martins college film IMHO. I would have passed on him. The Browns did us a favor. Go Bucs!

I was so afraid that Jason Licht would trade up to get a RB. Ian Rapoport had reported that he had tried to trade back into the 1st round. I presume at that time it was to get RB Derrius Guice. I do not know what happened or if there was some last minute revelation about Guice. I won’t guess. But I like the RoJo aka Texas Tesla pick or that somebody may have slipped Licht a Xanax and calmed him down. Lol. Patience is virtue! Go Bucs!

Awesome draft so far… Jones looks like just what we needed in a RB. He will help this offense tremendously!! Cant wait to see Jones breaking away for TD’s. He looks very fast in his high light film. I bet his pro day 40 would have been much faster if he didn’t pull his hamstring at the combine. SO SYKED! GO BUCS!!!!
