New Bucs head coach Todd Bowles continues his media tour, recently sitting down with Adam Schefter on the No Days Off podcast. The two touched on a litany of subjects, from how he found out he was succeeding Bruce Arians, to what he learned as head coach of the Jets. They also touched on Bowles relationship with Tom Brady and how their will to win supersedes anything else.
“We’ve got a lot in common in the fact that we both want to win, and we don’t care how we win,” Bowles said. “We’re both very detailed and like to do things a certain way and we just like the end result. Whether we score 100 points or whether we score 6 points, we’re trying to win a ball game and we’re trying to do everything in our power every day to win the ball game.
“I love that part about him. And it’s not about him throwing for five or six touchdowns. It’s him winning on the scoreboard and understanding the game and how to attack people and how to defend people attacking us. I think we have a lot in common in that way and I think it will work well.”
Bowles didn’t have a relationship with Brady prior to him joining the Bucs. Sure, they played each other twice a season, but they really got to know each other when Brady came to Tampa Bay. Through that, Bowles realized how much the pair had in common from a football standpoint.

“I didn’t actually know him other than playing against him when I was in New York obviously,” Bowles said. “But him coming here and getting to know him over the past two years has been great for us from a competitive standpoint defensively. But even walking off the field with him a lot of times and us just talking football. Wanting to know about certain things and bouncing certain things off of each other. And he’s a heck of a guy. He’s a heck of a teammate. And you know when he’s on the field he competes like hell. He likes to have fun a little bit when he’s not on the field. But he’s all business when he’s on the field. And he really cares about his teammates.”
There’s no questioning that Brady has made the Bucs defense better. He did that in New England as well. The competitive drive the two men share should form a strong relationship for the 2022 season.
