The PR Bucs Monday Mailbag is where PewterReport.com’s Mark Cook answers your questions from our Twitter account. You can submit your question each week via Twitter using the hashtag #PRMailbag.
Below are the questions we chose for this week’s edition of the PR Bucs Monday Mailbag.
Question: Would it make more sense to draft a QB in like the 3rd-4th round and focus on building out the O-line with our first two picks? Maybe tag Jameis to see if he works out better behind an improved O-line? Regardless of who we draft this O-line will get them killed.
Answer: It is still too early to really tell at what point you add – or even if you do – add a quarterback in the draft. Sunday’s game and six turnover performance by Jameis Winston is concerning. Some of those mistakes just should not be happening in Year 5 of a quarterback’s career. There really are no more excuses to be made.

As far as offensive line drafting goes, you can bet the Bucs will be scouting that position heavily, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the team draft offensive linemen like they have defensive backs as of late. Meaning drafting them early and often. Demar Dotson is at the end of his career, and even if you say you are satisfied with Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet and Ryan Jensen, finding quality depth is crucial. We saw that on Sunday when Josh Wells and Earl Watford had to fill in. But if fans think it is bad now, what happens if Jensen or Smith were to go down for any significant amount of time?
It is beyond time to address the offensive line, and it would shock me if doesn’t become a high priority in the 2020 draft.
Question: Bruce Arians and Dirk Koetter talked to Jameis about ball security. He has been benched and coddled and neither has worked. When is it time to realize that this is who he is?
Answer: I think everyone realizes when you have Winston as your quarterback, you can count of some turnovers. The thing you love about Winston – fearlessness, never quit on a play – are also the things that can turn into things you despise. We saw that on Sunday. Bruce Arians mentioned on Monday following the game, reiterating what he said on Sunday, and that was Winston wants to be Superman on every play.
Winston has got to find that balance of being smart and not so reckless while also being aggressive and not playing timid. The NFL history books are filled with plenty of talented football players who never could find that middle ground and potential was wasted. Hopefully for there organization and their fans, that isn’t the case with Winston, but a couple more games like Sunday and that very well could be the path Winston’s career takes.
Question: Could this be one and done for Bruce Arians if things don’t turn around? Could they move on from Jason Licht?
Answer: I really think they are somewhat of a package deal and if the Glazers decided to fire Licht at the end of the season, it wouldn’t shock me to see Arians step down as well. Especially if ownership decides they are ready to move on from Winston and start over. But I think we are still a ways off from that potential scenario. There are still 10 games left to play this season and plenty of time for questions to still be answered.

A big part of why Arians came out of retirement was to coach Winston, but also his relationship with Licht. But at the end of the day it is all about results and Licht’s track record isn’t very impressive as a whole. And this year’s draft class, while still early, doesn’t appear to have any home runs in it. At least not through the first six games.
But as mentioned earlier, this season is far from over and trying to decide who sticks around and who gets fired, is really way too premature. There were plenty of Bucs fans who thought Tony Dungy was in over his head midway through his first season in 1996, but the team rallied and bought into the process and we all know how that turned out. I can’t say definitively that all 53 guys in the locker room have completely bought in, but the sooner they do the better off they will be.
I wouldn’t say its panic time by any stretch but concern is warranted based on what we have seen though the first six games.
Question: When does Ryan Griffin get a legitimate shot with the 1st team?
Answer: When Winston goes down with a season-ending injury.
That is nothing against Griffin, but even most of Winston harshest critics would agree Winston despite an abysmal game in London, still gives this team the best chance to win. And with what you have invested in Winston, you need to exhaust every opportunity to see if he is the future.

Bucs fans know too often about the team giving up on players only to see them succeed elsewhere. Doug Williams and Steve Young won Super Bowls, heck even Trent Dilfer has the same number of Super Bowl rings as Drew Brees. When you spend the overall No. 1 pick on a player, the last thing you want to do is bail too early.
Of course holding onto a player too long also delays your franchise’s growth as well.
Being a Bucs fan is challenging to say the least, but it is never boring. These next 10 games will be interesting to watch and will steer the future of there franchise for possibly years to come. Hang onto your hats Bucs fans.
