Before their game on Sunday, the Bucs made one final move during a week of many important decisions. The Bucs have officially named their 2018 captains for the season. Making this list is WR Mike Evans, G Ali Marpet, and LB’s Kwon Alexander, Lavonte David and Adarius Taylor.

Coach Koetter confirmed that the captains will consist of two on both offense and defense, and one on special teams. Taylor is representing the special teams phase of the team. Most notably absent from this list is DT Gerald McCoy and QB Jameis Winston. McCoy had perviously been captain for over five years and Winston for the last two.

Lavonte David will get a special gold “C” on his jersey to commemorate this being the fifth year as a team captain. David is now the longest tenured captain on this Bucs team, followed by Mike Evans and Kwon Alexander at both two years. This is the first year as team captain for Ali Marpet and Adarius Taylor.

  1. A little egg on Coach’s face. I think we all know why they held off voting until Winston came back and now the team didn’t even recognize him as their captain.

  2. I am convinced when the regine takes over from Lictht and Koetter, all of the high-priced players and those ready to be paid big money will be gone. I believe this is McCoy’s last year on this team.

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if McCoy was gone next season, but I don’t think they’re going to let Alexander go

      • Would like to see McCoy get moved before the trading deadline to an AFC team. D-Jax will be gone at the end of the year.

  3. Kwon, and David, captains of the worst defense in the NFL. Maybe that’s what’s been holding them back, not having the official C on the chest. Well it’s on there now, time to lead this team upward. If not, time to move aside.

  4. Interesting to see who the players see as their captains. I know they’re FA additions, but I had a hunch JPP and VJax would have gotten C’s. They just seemed like leaders, vocally and by example.

  5. If Kwon can turn that corner this year he will be a special player for the Bucs for a long time. Good young man just needs to be consistent.

  6. Would have been awkward if the team made Ryan Fitzpatrick a captain.

  9. Again with the stupid Winston comments. This is not a big deal or a surprise. Your not going to have a captain that’s suspended and missing 3 games. After he kicks ass this year and is back next year he will be a Captain next year.
McCoy may or may not be here but has nothing to do if he’s a stupid captain or not. They already addressed this and said although he’s a great leader and leads by example they wanted more vocal captains this year for defense.

  10. Mike.Seven aren’t you proud of yourself and happy that the Bucs lost because that is what you are saying you idiot troll.
You can’t root for the Bucs and root against Winston you moron.
Good call Fredster. It is a deal but not as big a deal as the media makes it out to be.
Did Koetter give Winston more of a chance to make it as captain? Maybe. But he also gave the team more of a chance to make an honest choice.
Don’t see the harm in that and I don’t think the players do either and that is who counts the most.
As for McCoy, I think he will be gone next year too. He has been an enigma here since he arrived.

  11. Not surprised Jamies is not a captain this year. Let the team down with behavior and suspension. McCoy not being there is more interesting to me. Not the leader the media types think he is. And not worth the $$$ we’re paying him.

Levonte has been our best player almost since he got here. Unheralded guy that I hope makes the Pro Bowl some day.
