  1. It is what Koetter said – Week to week. Nothing more, nothing less. If Fitzpatrick plays well then Winston won’t get another chance this year. If he does not, then the situation is flexible and will change. Not sure what else can be said or debated about it – he was pretty clear about this in his press conference.

  2. You may like to know, Vinny Testaverde and Jameis Winston are more similar than you might ever imagine. Look up Tesaverde’s playoff games, he has over a 100 QBR in the games he won and he did not have to do too much. He is under 70 in the ones he lost with multiple interceptions and many passes.

Testaverde was a solid QB if he was not relied on to do too much. That is what Winston is trending towards. You cannot rely on him for over 30 passes a game because he will be picked off. Just like Testaverde.

Also note, the draft when there was a huge debate who was the better QB, Mariotta or Winston – the answer is still unknown. Maiotta cannot stay healthy and when he is, he is not usually playing well. Winston stays healthy, but he has a limitation of not being able to throw too many passes before the INTS start mounting.

  3. Yes it is weeks to week because Fitz is very erratic too. I guess people forgot he threw 3 picks and pick 6 against Steelers. Lol. I would bet good money we will see them going back to Winston at some point. If they don’t then that’s great it means Fitz keeps balling and we make playoffs. I have no faith Winston will get his shit together this year regardless. He finished year last year good, had good ore season and now he’s melting down looks like. Not that it really matters with the mess of team: defense, o line and kicker we have.

  4. I think that if any other quarterback from that class was playing well, then their jobs would definitely be in jeopardy. He was considered a great prospect by everyone, I read so many reports that had Luck as 1A and Winston as 1B as far as QB prospects go over the last 10 years. The pro game just hasn’t clicked for this guy and it won’t until he figures out that he can’t out ‘talent’ people at this level.

    • I think a wildcard birth with Fitz saves their jobs.

  7. Winston can thrive with a top O line, he’s need possession receivers nothing flashy. Put him in Dallas and he out plays Dak well at least with last year O line.

  8. Realism is what this is about now; no matter who the QB might be, we will be lucky to get 3 more wins. Bucs are further away than most of us thought two months ago.

I think Glazer’s might want to review whatever they have been doing the last 10 years, their plan isn’t working.
Until they figure it out, I would not fire Licht or Koetter until they hire an experienced President of Football and stay out of the way and let that person find what is needed to fix this team. This will eventually bring the fans back.

    Go Bucs!

    • Horse, a President of Football Operations might be what is needed. You, at least, are thinking outside the box about this organization. They really do need to look at the big picture and consider the entire history of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  10. Winston is here thru next season. And to be honest, he’s all we got for now. Fitz is great in relief doe a game or 2. If you followed his career, you’d know he has a knack for giving you a great game then..the Fitzmagic does the..Houdini! jameis will sit no more than 2 games. probably just one. And back in he goes with moments of sucess and failure. I think..Its time for Koetter to move on. And he will if he cannot reach 8 wins this year. Our Bucs will not achieve greatness with Dirk. We just need new blood. I lost faith with Dirk after he failed to fire Smitty last season. And the only reason he did so this yr was because the glazers stepped in. Jameis simply is taking to long to develop into THAT QB, He may never get there. He might be destined to be a career backup. He’s got one more season to prove it. And out Bucs? We are just truly a miserable TEAM..to watch. Ruck up Guys. Carolina will have..NO MERCY!! They are flat out ballin.

    • I believe they can still get out of the option up to March unless Winston is injured.
They’re just saying that we want to sign a new contract and if we can’t then we will exercise the option 21 million. This is still in negotiation and no contract has been signed, nor has Winston been injured. Bucks are still in control of the 21 million.

  11. So if Fitzpatrick balls out and gets this team above .500 to end the season, Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht need to keep their jobs. Here is my angle on this, as it goes with evaluating player’s, especially QBs, you draft a player based on what you think their potential is when they come out of college. The skills they showcase during being the baseline. We give them a certain amount of time to go from what they were in college to a substantially improved professional player. And after a certain amount of time if they don’t you’re labeled a bust and you get run out of town. Now if the coach and the GM should show improvement despite the play of a few players. I think Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht are the right men for the job, Jameis Winston is a loser. Let Jason Licht pick a QB from one of the next 2 QB classes and he gets it right.

  12. The Bucs have the best receivers in the league. It’s only going to get worse. We need to strike while the iron is hot.
We can’t pin our hopes on a QB in the draft or Winston. I think the only real solution is to sign a veteran QB with two years or more left, draft defense and O-line and keep an eye out for late round QBs. A veteran QB could lead this team to the superbowl.
You don’t need a great QB to win games, but you sure need one who doesn’t turn the ball over.

  13. So far the Buccaneers have not publicly acted hastily. There has to have been some discussions in the past about a situation like this coming along. They have to have some kind of plan in place in order to deal with this scenario. It only makes common sense from purely a business viewpoint. Maybe that is why Koetter has not said anything beyond how it affects our next game.

The Glazers have their bottom line regarding game attendance and keeping their fan base happy. They should have already taken these things into consideration. They probably already some kind of public relations campaign ready to go.

The question is, for Dirk, Jason and the Glazers, is this benching going to be enough of a shock for Jameis? Will this be the incident that finally wakes him up to reality and dramatically turns his career around?

A question for us as fans is has the door been left open for Winston to have one more chance or have we reached the point of no return? I truly don’t think that whatever the fan consensus or what professional commenter have to say in the immediate future has a direct bearing on the outcome in this case.

Kirk and Jason of course have their future with the organization at stake. Jameis certainly has his near term future at stake as well as repercussions for his long term career to think about, not to mention just the affect on his potential income.

Meanwhile, the fans can only watch how things unfold from day to day and week to week. This season in not quite over for us yet. I don’t know if it is time to “put a fork in it”. There is an outside chance that things will turn around for the team, though there is no evidence to support anything but a negative outcome for this season so far.

It would be almost a miracle for us to make the the play-offs based on what I see as our other problems and deficiencies. Nevertheless, I will continue to support the Bucs and I hope to see us pull off a big win over the Panthers.

  14. I just looked NFL stats
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the highest rated starting QB in NFL at 119.3
Jameis Winston is the 30th rated QB of starting QB in the NFL with a 74.7
Wonder why it is so hard for Bucs management to figure it out.
It is time to call it over and move on from Jameis , Bucs still have out side chance
Old coach once said key to winning in NFL is to score more points than the other team.
    Ryan gives some hope
Jameis Winston is average of 86.3 over 4 years when someone shows you who he is believe him
All the hype and BS did not match the play on field .
Franchise QB is not rated 86% over 4 years
Good back up is higher than that .
Team divided with him here sounds like no team has called and offered anything for him
release him today do not take chance of injury and owe him 21 mil next year.
They can not play him so why take up a needed spot……

  15. I wanted the Bucs to draft Winston and I defended him through it all but I’m done.

    1) If Winston was on a boat, in salt water, he would somehow catch a freshwater bass instead of a saltwater trout.

    2) Trade deadline is obviously over now but I would have traded Winston to the Cardinals. See if they were not serious about Peterson not being on the trade block. They could use a QB. Package it with a high to mid draft pick if you have to.
