PewterReport.com presents the Pewter Nation Podcast, a weekly audio hour of news, analysis and inside scoop on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers delivered with a dose of humor and insight from Bucs beat writers Scott Reynolds, Mark Cook, Taylor Jenkins, Jon Ledyard and Matt Matera, who also serves as the show’s producer. Look for the Pewter Nation Podcast each week on PewterReport.com for your listening pleasure during the 2020 season.

Many have guessed when training camp would start and Bruce Arians revealed to the media that the Bucs will hit the field on July 21st. But before that, Arians spoke about the current racial injustice in America and the PR staff applauded Arians for doing so, and also discussed how both the Bucs and Arians have been at the forefront of hiring minority coaches for years now.

There was a lot more to takeaway from Arians’ press conference, such as embracing their Super Bowl expectants, working around all the missed reps from canceled practices, and more.

While the Bucs have great depth in some areas on the team, there are a couple positions of concern if a starter were to go down. Who plays center if Ryan Jensen gets injured? Which edge rusher will step up behind Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett? Hear it all in the new Pewter Nation Podcast.

So I saw that Arians said that he was going to use more 12 personnel this year with Gronk added to the mix.   I then saw that Bucs ran the 12 personnel the 8th most last year and our quarterback passer rating when running the system was 106. Fantastic.   Arians and Leftwich took a lot of crap last year that they did not know how to use tight ends. But who cares whether those catches go to tight ends when your quarterback has a 106 rating in those two tight end sets. Your team is clearly playing well… Read more »

Ariana also said the other day that he’s been creating a bunch of 13 personnel plays. I can only imagine the mismatches there. Evans or Godwin, alongside Gronk, OJ, Brate, and Rojo. They could either power run it down your throat with all those big bodied blockers, or they could send them all out on intermediate to deep routes. How you possibly gonna stop either of those, if you don’t know which one is coming? Having Evans, Gronk, and OJ running down the seem is completely unfair lol. Arians said he’s gonna have fun coming up with 13 personnel plays

How are you gonna stop them in 13 personnel? Easy. Just run past Wirfs and smash Brady in the knee. Dunzo. Enter Blaine Gabbert.

Newsflash bud, that’s not #3 behind center anymore. It’s an actual QB who knows how to play the position. The ball will be out before he gets there. It’s amazing how great life is, when you have a smart, competent QB that actually has a clue how to play the QB position. It’s called throw it out of bounds, or dump it off. And seeing as, in 20 years nobody gets a clean blindside hit on Brady, I’m pretty confident it won’t start now. Especially since Wirfs will most likely be starting at RG, and guaranteed to not be protecting… Read more »

In 20 years, the Patriots have had cupcakes in the AFC East. Every team in the NFC South, except Tampa, has been to a SuperBowl within the last 8 years. Brady may get the ball out quick, but it only takes one late shot to his knee to end the campaign. He has no escapability, unlike Winston. His body will be 43 years young. The heat could also have an effect on recovery and inflammation.

Let me put it like this, I will not be buying a Brady jersey.

Wha does Brady’s division have to do with anything? Lol. He still has to beat all the best teams in the AFC to get to the SB. You are right about the division. But if he truly sucked, or the Pats were frauds, they wouldn’t have been to 9 SB’s in 19 seasons with Brady as the starter. That’s legit a 50% chance Of being in the SB. And all it takes is one hit, is something you can say about any QB. And he has no escape ability is so incredibly inaccurate. He has the best pocket mobility of… Read more »

BA is still on the hot-seat. We have to have a winning season this year. No excuses. I am not even thinking about the Super Bowl this Year. To me, that would be expecting too much. Lets just get to a winning season and maybe the playoffs. Progress. Even if it is just a little.

Yeah just having a winning season when you went all in for this season simply isn’t good enough. I agree that you don’t have to win the SB to call this season a success. But to me, anything short of the playoffs is a failure. This roster is a playoff roster. Plain and simple. 9-7 and missed playoffs isn’t good enough

They are one injury away from disaster, but at least the schedule is one of the easiest they’ve had in years.

You can say that about half the league. Let’s go down the list of teams that are 1 injury away from NOT being a SB contender. Pats with Bill(yup even a coach). Texans with Watson. Ravens with Jackson. Steelers with Big Ben. Chiefs with MaHolmes. Eagles with Wentz. Saints with Brees. Packers with Rodgers. Lions with Stafford. Rams with Goff. Seattle with Wilson. And Cards with Murray. All those teams are not contenders with those injuries

To be clear, I agree that some teams are more vulnerable than others based on dropoff at key positions. I was simply stating how thin the Bucs are at key areas and can’t afford an injury in those spots. I will say that your list is a bit flawed.

Wentz was injured and they won a superbowl.
Brees was injured and they went 5-0 without him.
Big Ben has extensive injury history and they finished .500 or better every time.

No my list isn’t flawed. You just gave examples of PAST teams. The teams I listed are doomed with those specific players with the backups they currently have. Wentz doesn’t Foles as his backup anymore. The Steelers with that defense are a SB contender with a healthy Big Ben. They proved last year, the backups suck. And Brees now has a gimmick QB and our trash leftover. The Eagles, Steelers, and Saints are all SB contenders. But If Mason Rudolph, Duck Hodges, Jameis, T.Hill, or Jalen Hurts is forced to be the QB, they’re not SB contenders anymore

I don’t think BA is in the hot seat at all. I do believe this is a hail mary to save Licht’s job

In Germany second Soccer league two Players had corona. All games of the Team were cancelled for two weeks. Big different is that you can have Soccer Matches every three days and they can make up for the missed games during the week

Obviously the NFL will get shut down if Scott’s scenario unfolds where multiple players on multiple teams are testing positive. If Covid-19 was the same as the regular flu, then the world wouldn’t be shutting down everywhere.

I asked when because I’ve been following soccer and Dynamo has been playing. In fact they played today. Don’t ever remember them not playing for 2 weeks because players tested positive

Bucs will be in trouble for the season if they lose any single one of the following players to injury: QB Tom Brady, LT Donovan Smith, DE JPP, DE Shaq Barrett

If they lose two players at CB, WR, or DT it will also be catastrophic since they have little to no depth.

TE cupboard is OVERFLOWING. If Gronk, Brate, OJ, and/or Auclair get hurt, there are still 2 more young guys with playing time waiting in the wings.

I don’t expect any rookie to play to start the season, especially Wirfs.

Lol. Wirfs is gonna get his ass whupped in camp and he’s gonna look like a rookie who can’t handle stunts or games. As far as Winfield…I guarantee you two of the followning players will easily surpass his skillset: Evans, Whitehead, Edwards, Dixon, Adams, or Stewart in camp.

Really? Sometimes I even wonder if you’re really a Bucs fan, or you just like being “that guy”. So let’s see. Evans hasn’t played in almost 2 years, and certainly is NOT going to be healthy by week 1. Edwards was well below average last year. Whitehead, after a solid rookie year, was borderline putrid. And Winfield not passing Dixon, Adams, or Stewart is comical. I’ll say it again. I GUARANTEE both will start. The Bucs want Haeg to be the next man up in case Wirfs or Cappa struggle, or if there’s an injury. They didn’t sign him to… Read more »

You’re just putting too much stock into these rookies Dave. Every year it’s the same process. Rookies RARELY start for the Bucs. They simply won’t be ready week 1. They have to learn the offense or defense, their specific position, and graduate to a higher level of competition.

Also, Bruce Arians drafted DJ Humphries in the 1st round and made him inactive all 16 games his rookie year…COACHES DECISION!

No, I think you’re putting too much stock into the fact that they are rookies. I promise you a rookie can start on day 1 and contribute. It has happened before. And will happen again. The only things that matter are what the competition is at the specific position they were drafted to play. I’ll start with Wirfs. They traded up In the first round to get him. So outside of a complete disaster in training camp, he was drafted to start day 1. Whether you think he’s ready or not. He was not drafted to be a backup. Especially… Read more »

About being “that guy”…

I’ve always rooted against Tom Brady. This feels like an easy money grab to put butts in seats or sell jerseys. The faster he closes out his time as a Buc, the better. He can take his trademark Tompa Bay Gronkaneers bullshit with him.

As far as Wirfs goes, he was not good last year and that was against shitty competition. He was a mistake at 13, 14, or 27. He won’t be Rookie of the Year. Winfield has good bloodlines, but he’s injury prone like other Licht safety choices.

So you admit it’s purely biased, because you hate Brady. I guarantee you, you didn’t hate him more than I did. Always hated the Pats and Brady. But I also can acknowledge that having him over Jameis is as big an upgrade as you can ever have from one player to another. Aside from the fact that he just made the Bucs a household team, and provided a HUGE increase in ticket sales, and merchandise sales. That alone(without a single game played), made the signing worth it for ownership. But now add all his on the field pros, and it’s… Read more »
