Tampa Bay Bucs defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was involved in a single car crash Thursday morning in Broward County, Florida, as TMZ first reported. The accident occurred at 5 AM, where he was then taken to a hospital.

Pierre-Paul has since been released from the hospital and looks to be doing okay. Reports say that it was merely an accident, with only Pierre-Paul’s SUV involved. He was not speeding or accused of any wrongdoing.

Bucs’ general manager Jason Licht gave a statement on the matter.

“We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited. We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future.”

  6. Glad he’s ok. I was never worried because if JPP is out, there’s still the great perrenial pro bowler gerald mccoy to shut down the opposing offense. Well, him and the 14 defensive backs they drafted. Lol.

  7. Should be here getting to know the new staff, and scheme working out with his mates. JPP is one of our highest paid players, and as a pro bowl vet needs to be here. In a draft loaded with DT’s, and DE’s we’re paying McCoy, and JPP what, 27 million combined? We’ve been paying McCoy for nine years, not one playoff appearance, bring in JPP, he was a difference maker, went from 5-11 to 5-11. Any wonder we never win?

  8. I look forward to seeing this faster defense fly around. I hope the new scheme brings confusion and pressure to opposing offenses.

If Vea, Gholston, and Allen can generate some push upfield, then White, JPP, Nassib, David can fly around and attack the ball. The secondary can also get involved in pressure or blitzes if they are pressing at the line.

Adding more speed, length and playmaking at defensive backs in Bunting, Edwards, and Dean should help achieve better results. Adding their talent with Davis, VH3, Stewart, Bucannon, Brice, Whitehead, Evans and Ryan Smith gives the Bucs great flexibility, coverage, youth, and savings on the back end.

JPP will be a big reason why the Bucs defense is successful this season.

  10. This guy is overpaid doesn’t show up unless it’s mandatory plays that about 85% of his potential defense actually got worse last year with him here he misses a lot of tackles against the Run and this year he doesn’t have Kwon Alexander to cover his back

  14. He was hospitalized. Bucs need to address his status. With the Beckwith no status and now this, it would be really nice if the Bucs were a little more forthcoming about the health of players. We are a long way from the Season, there is no reason to conceal this. There are probably a half dozen players with assorted injuries that they could bring us up to date about.

  15. Looks like he’s physicaly O.k. . . . emotionaly shaken up.

I lost a friend to a car accident a year ago. Then the the Beckwith accident happened. I didn’t mention my friend at the time; too busy and maybe a little bit tired. But, the picture I see of Pierre Paul looks like a man who feels like he dodged a bullet.
