Pewter Report has learned the Bucs are placing long snapper Zach Triner on the reserve/COVID list. Triner was recently activated off injured reserve after suffering a torn tendon in his finger during the season opener. Triner has been with the club since 2019 and has been as solid as they come.

If Triner cannot return before Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, the Bucs don’t have an obvious replacement. Carson Tinker was signed in the wake of Triner’s previous injury and performed admirably in his stead. Tinker was released when Triner was activated. This past week, the Raiders signed Tinker to their roster.

Triner is in his third season as the Bucs long snapper. In the season opener, Triner stayed in the game against the Cowboys even after tearing his finger tendon early. He did not tell coaches or staff until the game was over and had a perfect snap for kicker Ryan Succop on the game-winning field goal. After the game, head coach Bruce Arians praised his toughness.

“I was really proud of him,” Arians said. “I would’ve not been really happy to have somebody else snapping that ball to win the game. So he gutted it out. He’ll get it fixed up and he’ll be fine. Tough as nails.”

The Bucs will have to wait to assess Tinker’s availability for Sunday. As a vaccinated player, Tinker needs two negative tests 24 hours apart and to be symptom-free by Sunday. If not, the Bucs will be looking at free agent long snappers once again.
