In a series of moves, the Bucs announced they have placed wide receiver John Franklin III and rookie cornerback Chris Wilcox on the team active/PUP list. In addition they have also waived veteran safety Curtis Riley. Franklin and Wilcox will count toward the 90-man roster, with Riley’s release opening up a spot for an addition before training camp.

Riley, who was covered in our recent training camp battles, suffered an Achilles tear in mandatory mini-camp in June. Franklin who tore his ACL during Bucs training camp in August 2020, is still recovering from his injury.
The surprise is Wilcox, who took part in the team’s offseason program, but sustained a hamstring injury. With heavy competition at wide receiver and cornerback, both players will need to work their way back into the mix soon to contend for a roster spot.
With seven safeties on the roster after Riley’s release, the Bucs could bring another veteran in for competition. Only Raven Greene has seen regular season snaps of the current group behind Antoine Winfield Jr., Jordan Whitehead and Mike Edwards. Three days from training camp, the Bucs will have limited time to fill that one open spot on the roster.
