One of the pivotal moments of the Bucs’ Week 11 victory over the Giants didn’t come thanks to Tom Brady’s arm. Instead it came due to his legs, as the quarterback’s third down scramble helped put points on the board for Tampa Bay in the second quarter.
Facing a 3rd-and-10 at the Giants 33, Brady stepped up in the pocket, saw a lane and took off. A few yards short of the marker, Brady stepped out of a diving Tae Crowder tackle to pick up the first down. A few plays later, a Ryan Succop field goal gave the Bucs a 10-3 lead.

The scramble officially went down as a 10-yard run, Brady’s second longest of the season. The future Hall of Famer had a 13-yard romp against the Dolphins. Last year, Brady’s longest run of the season was just four yards! So don’t blame him for wanting credit for every yard he can get on his scrambles in 2021.
“Eleven-yard run,” Brady corrected the media after the victory. “They don’t happen very often, so I remember how far they go. It was pretty good.”
Brady has already forced three missed tackles this season, per Pro Football Focus. That’s the most missed tackles he has ever forced in a single season, and there are still seven games to go! This is the first season in Brady’s career that he has forced more than one missed tackle.
“It’s been forever,” Brady said about the time that has lapsed since last high-stepping out of a tackle. “Probably never. That is not my thing. That’s not what I do. Good to have it come up. Hopefully I can do that again next week too. Make a couple of those [plays].”
Brady already has 51 rushing yards this season, his most in a season since 2016. He’s also averaging 3.2 yards per rush, the second-best mark of his career. The only season where the Bucs quarterback performed better on the ground was a 3.3 average in 2005. He’s got 7 games left to set a new career high in 2021 – at 44 years old.
