Bucs QB Tom Brady has become the first Bucs player to grace the cover of Madden, as the quarterback will be featured in the 2022 version of the game. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will join him, as the duo becomes the second dual athlete cover in the game’s history. This is the second time both players have been selected for the cover of Madden NFL.

EA Sports teased the release a few days ago with this video of former Madden cover athlete Peyton Hillis saying “they did it again” on a phone call. This came moments after two goats burst from the barn doors.

“It’s obviously very cool to be selected,” Brady told USA TODAY Sports by phone. “I’ve loved the game. I’ve loved EA Sports. They were a big part of my life growing up. … To see what this ‘Madden’ franchise has become over the years is incredible — how it’s evolved and changed, and how the technology’s changed and how they’ve really built an online community of players.”

Brady was last featured on the cover of Madden in 2018, while Mahomes was the face of the game in 2020. Both quarterbacks are currently the favorites to represent the NFC and AFC in Super Bowl LVI, after meeting in the game this past February.

The “Madden Curse” seemed real for the longest time, but both Brady and Mahomes have been two of the rare athletes to spurn the superstition. After making his Madden cover debut before the 2017 season, Tom Brady was the league MVP and took his team all the way to the Super Bowl. The Patriots lost to the Eagles, 41-33, but Brady had one of his finest seasons from start to finish.

Mahomes one-upped Brady by winning the Super Bowl months after being featured on the cover of Madden NFL 20. It wasn’t Mahomes best statistical regular season, but his playoffs performance was arguably the greatest of all time.

Madden NFL 22 will launch on August 20 with a ton of brand new features and elements to the game.
