When the NFL and NFLPA made the decision to approve a 17th game to the regular season schedule, there was no shortage of reaction. Many fans were happy to see more football, but others wondered what another game would mean for player health. There was also the challenge of comparing statistics and records from the modern era with the length of the season changing.
It’s safe to say you can count Bucs QB Tom Brady among those who were against the idea. Appearing on his “Lets Go!” podcast on SiriusXM, Brady called the additional game “pointless” and a “terrible decision”.
Tom Brady really dislikes the fact that the NFL added a 17th game to the season.

“No, I think it’s pointless,” Brady said. “I thought it was a terrible decision. So, I don’t like the fact that we’re playing a 17th game at all. I think 16 is plenty.
“Whatever. We’ll play it, it’s there…A lot of people know my feelings on these topics. I’ve been pretty vocal about NFL issues over the past couple years.”
Brady has been outspoken on a number of issues over the past few years, including the jersey number rule change, roughing/targeting rules and more. The future Hall of Famer spoke to the NFLPA over Zoom this summer, urging them to push for modified or reduced offseason work. He’s also heavily criticized the NFLPA for being “ignorant” of the money players were losing out on by agreeing to a lower salary cap. Brady is aware of his platform as one of the faces of the league, consistently using his position to call for changes.
The Bucs additional 2021 opponent will be the 4-5 Colts in a Week 12 matchup.
