The Bucs got some great news on Tuesday morning as second-year safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. returned to practice after missing Monday’s session. Winfield, a starter, was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice at the AdventHealth Training Center.

Winfield practiced on Sunday in the Bucs’ camp debut but tested positive for COVID-19 afterwards. The team believed it was a false positive as he was retested on Monday morning, but was held out of practice as a precaution.

The Bucs safety position was thinned with the absence of Winfield and starting strong safety Jordan Whitehead, who has missed the start of training camp after being placed on the COVID/reserve list for testing positive. Whitehead tweeted out “3 days left” on Tuesday morning before he deleted the tweet moments later. That could be an indication that his COVID quarantine period is coming to a swift end.

Tampa Bay has also been without newly acquired veteran safety Raven Greene, who missed the third day of Bucs camp on Tuesday due to personal reasons. Bucs head coach Bruce Arians said on Sunday that Greene’s absence was excused, but he provided no timetable for his return as of Tuesday morning.

The Bucs have had to have Mike Edwards and Javon Hagan fill in as the starting safeties with the absences of Winfield and Whitehead. And cornerback Ross Cockrell has also spent the start of training camp as a reserve free safety due to the lack of able bodies at the safety position.
