On the offensive side of the ball, G John Molchon, RB Kenjon Barner and TE Codey McElroy were signed. Defensively, the Bucs retained DL Kobe Smith, DL Benning Potoa’e, S Troy Warner, OLB Elijah Ponder, DL Will Previlon and CB Rashard Robinson. Also re-signed was kicker Jose Borregales.
The Bucs made excellent use of the 16-man practice squad this season with all the injuries they suffered. Barner, McElroy and Robinson saw action in several games over the course of the year. Barner filled in as the team’s return man during Darden’s injury. McElroy saw action when Gronkowski was sidelined. Robinson was actually signed to the main roster and was a key contributor on special teams before injuries set in for the six-year pro.
Molchon and Potoa’e return to the practice squad for the second straight year. Meanwhile McElroy returns for his third. Ponder, Warner and Borregales finished their rookie seasons with contracts after joining the team as undrafted free agents. Considering Ryan Succop’s $4 million salary, Borregales could find himself competing for the kicking job in August.
