The Bucs signed a pair of rookies in Georgia Tech wide receiver Dean Patterson and Tarleton State outside linebacker Yasir Holmes after they had successful tryouts during the team’s rookie mini-camp over the weekend. Fox Sports’ Greg Auman first broke the news on X.

Late Sunday evening, Auman also reported on X that Tampa Bay was signing an additional tryout player, New Mexico State running back Kadarius Calloway.

Calloway is listed at 5-foot-11, 211 pounds and would be the second-biggest running back on Tampa Bay’s roster behind Owen Wright, who is 5-foot-9, 217 pounds. At 5-foot-11, Calloway is currently the tallest back on the team.

Calloway played at four different schools in college, finishing up at New Mexico State in 2025, but also taking snaps at Cal, Old Dominion and East Mississippi Community College. He ran for 438 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 3.8 yards per carry last season while hauling in 26 passes for 175 yards. His most productive season running the ball came at Old Dominion in 2023 when he rushed for 623 yards with five touchdowns while averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

Bucs RB Room May Now Be Complete

The signing of Kadarius Calloway is strictly for depth purposes, as he will be competing for the RB4 job behind starter Bucky Irving, primary backup Kenneth Gainwell and third-string back Sean Tucker. Josh Williams, an undrafted running back from LSU, was the team’s fourth-string running back last year while also serving as a kick returner during his rookie season.

Calloway will be competing with Williams and Owen Wright for the RB4 job, and replaces Michael Wiley, who was recently released. With six running backs, the Bucs’ running back room may be set heading into training camp.

While Calloway might be the biggest back on the Bucs roster, the team doesn’t have a runner as big as Rachaad White, who spent four years in Tampa Bay splitting time between being a starter and a reserve. White, a third-round pick in 2022, entered the league at 6-foot, 214 pounds, but generally played between 220-225 pounds for the Bucs after his rookie season. He left for a one-year deal with Washington this offseason in free agency.

The Bucs have had at least one running back weigh at least 220 pounds since 2020 when the team signed veteran free agent Leonard Fournette, who helped the team win Super Bowl LV that season. Fournette spent three seasons in Tampa Bay before White claimed the starting running back job during the 2023 season.

Irving is the smallest back at 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, while Gainwell is 5-foot-9, 200 pounds. Tucker has a bit more size at 5-foot-10, 205 pounds, while Williams is 5-foot-9, 210 pounds.
