With inside linebacker Devin White and outside linebacker Shaq Barrett being placed on the NFL’s Reserve/Covid-19 list, Tampa Bay has signed linebacker Jack Cichy from the New England Patriots’ practice squad to the active roster, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

A sixth-round draft pick to the Bucs by way of Wisconsin in 2018, Cichy totaled six tackles in 15 games over three seasons with Tampa Bay but found also found himself on the injured reserve in each season. After landing on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury in 2020, Cichy was activated in late November, waived on Dec. 2 and claimed by the Patriots before being signed to New England’s practice squad.

Cichy will provide familiar depth at inside linebacker, along with rookie Chapelle Russell, behind Lavonte David and veteran Kevin Minter who is expected to start in place of White against Atlanta on Sunday.

Thank God we have Kevin Minter, not much of a drop off in terms of talent and a savvy veteran. Hurry back White and Shak.

Yeah, Minter is heady and reliable. David still gives the presence of sideline to sideline speed, and ATL doesn’t have a twitchy QB or RB that demands your Mike to have an afterburner.

I hate that White is out but this is as good of a game of any to miss. Hope he recovers soon and is able to roll for the playoffs. Even if he isn’t, Tampa wouldn’t be at a critical disadvantage if he is out vs. Washington or Dallas. Giants could be another story.

Minter is a solid player and better in coverage than White. Not much if any dropoff.
