With Blaine Gabbert due to miss some time after dislocating his left shoulder in Friday night’s game, the Bucs have signed quarterback Vincent Testaverde Jr. to the roster. In order to make room for him, the Bucs waived rookie outside linebacker Khazin Daniels.

Testaverde Jr. has already been on the Bucs twice this season, first participating in rookie mini-camp in May, and then signing again with Tampa Bay during training camp on July 28th before getting released on August 7th. He had nine practices with the Bucs in that time.

The Bucs are thin at quarterback right now after Gabbert’s injury as undrafted free agent Nick Fitzgerald has been sidelined for all of camp with a hamstring issue.

Third string quarterback Ryan Griffin, who’s been having a great preseason, now slides up to the second string behind Jameis Winston.

With those corresponding moves, coach Bruce Arians would prefer to not play Griffin at all in their final preseason game against the Cowboys to prevent another injury, and even mentioned that they were considering looking at Testaverde Jr. in his press conference on Saturday.

Since the Bucs are set with their quarterbacks for the regular season barring the outcome of how long Gabbert could be out, they only need a quarterback for week four of the preseason.

Given Testaverde Jr.’s experience with the team and knowledge of the system, he would be more up to speed with the game just a week out as opposed to another free agent quarterback that were to be signed.
