When a walkthrough practice is happening for Thursday night football, there aren’t too many new updates. That was not the case for the Bucs on Tuesday as they had a very surprising new addition. Bucs kicker Chase McLaughlin, who’s been a bright spot for this team in a season where there hasn’t been many great moments, was listed as did not practice on the injury report with a right groin and hip injury.

McLaughlin has been automatic for the Bucs this season making all seven of his PATs and all nine of his field goal attempts, including three from over 50 yards out. Tampa Bay’s accurate kicker was looking for a contract extension this offseason while Baker Mayfield and Vita Vea got theirs, but McLaughlin has made his play do the talking.

If McLaughlin isn’t ready to go for the Thursday night game against the Cowboys, the Bucs will have to scramble to find a new kicker. The reasonable move would be to sign B.T. Potter, who has spent the last two training camps and preseason with the team. He’s never kicked in an NFL regular season game, though, so Tampa Bay might opt for a kicker with more experience.

The rest of the injury report was relatively the same. Outside linebacker Rueben Bain Jr. practiced in full for the second straight day while inside linebacker Josiah Trotter upgraded to practicing in full. The only other new addition was outside linebacker Anthony Nelson as he has an illness that kept him as a limited participant.

The Bucs will have another walkthrough practice on Wednesday before flying off to Dallas for the Thursday game. We will hear from head coach Todd Bowles about what the status of McLaughlin is and what happened to him in the first place that cost this problem to happen.
